Boot Camp issue with Catalina PB 8

So,

I'm trying to install Windows 10 on my 2016 MBP nTB, but after I open up boot camp assistant and select my Win10 ISO it fails to download the Windows support software. I've tried using both of the Win10 versions that are available from Microsoft at the moment, but the assistant fails to download in both cases.

Has anyone encountered this and have any suggestions? I have had Windows 10 installed on this machine before, but I think the last time was when High Sierra was installed. I had no issues then.

What speaks against installing in an external drive a previous MacOS and boot from that drive and use its Bootcamp Assistant up to the point it downloads the Windows support drivers for your computer to an USB key. Then carry on on the Bootcamp procedure now back from your Catalina drive?
Sorry if this suggestion is useless as a procedure.
I once have read in this forum a post of someone searching help from a so called Apple Genius Bar. There they had to go back as far as Yosemite to obtain a working Bootcamp installation.
My own experience with Bootcamp has not been a rewarding one even if I am still in High Sierra.

That could be an option, but the Boot Camp assistant on Catalina doesn't let you choose whether you want to let them download automatically or point to a specific folder where pre-downloaded support drivers can be found. It tries to download them automatically, fails, and then goes back to the beginning and the only option you have is to repeat the procedure.

Boot Camp hasn’t ever worked for me, so I’m hoping the public Catalina update will somehow fix it. I feel your frustration!

I agree with you 100%
I have tried BootCamp in all possible ways, even by installing for a short time Yosemite to use their BootCamp which worked with an USB pen drive to receive the support drivers. It has been a nightmare for me.
Some people say it works for them. I can only envy them.
Maybe it‘s like with plants and flowers where some people say they have „a green hand“.
I hope one day Apple will pay attention to the only way they offer to have a running Windows in a mac with an Intel CPU.
Unfortunately chances are not too good for such an effort...

After the latest Catalina PB update bootcamp came back online and allowed med to install Windows 10 without any problems
