When I try to create a Windows XP partition with the Boot Camp Assistant, I get this error message:

"Your disk cannot be partitioned because some files cannot be moved.
Back up the disk and use Disk Utility to format the disk as a single Mac OS Extended (Journaled) volume. Restore your information to the disk and try using Boot Camp Assistant again."

I have never partitioned my drive previously, and according to Disk Utility, my disk is already a "Mac OS Extended (Journaled) volume." I have also tried to repair the disk with Disk Utility, but it told me that no repairs were needed.

Is there any way around this, or do I have to format to get it to work?

Everyone seems to run into the problem when they have had BC and removed it.

So far, I've suggested that people try something like "idefrag" to defrag the HD, but user beware, make a good back up before using an on-the-fly defragger on OS X (other than OS X ;) ). I also don't remember if this actually worked or not. It's not something I'm willing to try.

The SAFEST fix is to clone -> boot from clone -> wipe original -> clone from clone to original -> install BC - Drive on.
