Boot Camp & Partitions

OK this isnt the first time i have used boot camp but it has been some time since i first used it. Any how i downloaded boot camp and went to run it to set up my windows partition, and the only options i get are 1. create driver cd 2. Run windows installer (which reboots me and starts the installer) or 3. restore partition to a single partition. But i havent CREATED a partition yet, And i could have swore that the last time i installed windows i created the partition before i jumped into the installer. Am i missing something??

And you're sure there's no other partitions there?

If My memory serve me well. If you have already created Windows Partition it will not ask you to create it again. Since it's already there, there's no need to.
Out of the three options. Just choose install windows if you have already created driver CD (very important to do that first, because you are going to need it after you finished installing windows).
And if you installed windows before everything is a piece of cake after that.

I had the same thing a while back. First I had XP one the mac, but removed it, and repartitioned everything back to one again. Then, a couple of days later, i wanted to reinstall XP, and had the same issue as you. I just chose the "repartition back to one" option (i think I had to do it twice). And after, everything was back to normal again...

If you tell Mac to restore the hard drive to one volume then you would have to repartition it again. Your old XP partition will be deleted. That's what I did because I want to change the partition size. when you run boot camp again it will ask you how much you want for Windows. You can have it divided equally or you can choose the size yourself. I thought it was gonna be hard to do it. But once I did it. It was a piece of cake.

problem with partition on Mac mini

My question is how do you go about repartitioning the hard drive back to a single volume as is required for the installing of bootcamp? I had originally installed Win XP on my mac mini. Shortly thereafter I realized no sound and no wi-fi. Then I did some reading ( experience in Win xp, novice in Mac OS) So then I find out it has to be win xp serv pak 2 , not serv pak 1 , was not sure about a slipcased disk so I obtained a single disk win xp servpak2 disc. Download bootcamp, system updates for mac os. I have a new full version of mac os tiger. I deleted all the partions from the drive and left it as a single raw unpartitioned space. I did this using the win xp install disk. Then I put the mac os disc in held down c powered up and nothing. The system just sat there. Then I reset the Pram now I get the apple bootup sound and then I get a picture of a file folder with a ? mark in the middle. How do I reinstall the Mac os on this machine. Is there such a thing as a boot disc in mac? I thought that the OS system disc should have it on it. Any Ideas would be greatly appreciated.

I don't think there's a way to dynamically resize a BootCamp partition. You might want to try something like iPartiton, but I wouldn't count on it working.

gparted is supposed to support Mac formatted drives. I've used it to resize partitions on Windows and Linux machines, but not my Mac (the Windows and Linux machines were work PCs that I didn't really care that much about ... the Mac is my own). It comes in a live CD that you boot into, and it displays a graphical interface.

I think that's your problem - if I understand you correctly, you've formatted your Mac's hard drive with a Windows XP disk - no wonder your mac won't boot! - If you have access to another (working!) mac, make sure it's powered on and then you should connect it to your mac mini (powered off) with a firewire lead. Hold down the 'T' key (for Target Disk Mode) on your mac mini's keyboard whilst you power on your Mac mini. - Wait a few seconds until you see a floating Firewire symbol that appears in your screen connected to the Mac mini. - You can then use the Apple's Disk Utility (Applications/Utilities/Disk Utility) on the working Mac, to format your Mac mini's hard drive (which should have mounted on the desktop of the working Mac) to a Mac OS Extended format. Once done, you should be able to boot fine from the Mac OS Disk, and proceed as normal.

Hi, I just restored my partition to a single Mac OS X partition using the BootCamp "restore" option.

It worked, but the boot seems so much longer than before, is there anything I can do?
