hey guys,

well XP is running fine in my 24" imac. however, everytime i boot up it tries to boot up windows instead of mac. then i'd have to start it again and press the OPTION key.

i thought it booted directly into mac os x unless u pressed option to choose windows xp.

if i missed something could you tell me how i can change the settings so that next time i boot up and forget to press the option key it goes directly to mac os x!

Thanks, appreciate it!

Try this.

Boot up into Mac OS X via the OPTION key.

Open the Startup Disk System Preference. In the Startup Disk System Preference, select the Mac OS X partition.

Reboot.

Should boot into Mac OS X.

Reboot.

Hold down the OPTION key. Select XP.

Reboot.

Should boot into Mac OS X.

So now the default boot will be Mac OS X.

If you want to boot into XP you must restart and hold down the OPTION key while booting to select XP. And when you restart from XP the Mac will automatically boot into Mac OS X.

Hopefully this will work well for you.

Yeah this is most likely the issue.

yep just tried it. it works.

however, what if i download a windows program, install it, and then it requires me to reboot. does it boot back into windows or does it go back into os x?

AFAIK, upon restart your Mac will boot into what OS (Partition) you have selected via the Startup Disk System Preference.

If you are going to install a Windows program, then you would change the preference to the XP partition, or use the OPTION key and select the XP partition.
