Is there any way to get Spotlight to not search my XP partition? I tried dragging the XP drive onto the Privacy list under the Spotlight System Preferences, but to no avail.

I just tried searching my Windows partition and Spotlight seems to have indexed it just fine. (I searched for sol.exe, the solitaire game). Try hitting cmd+opt+space to open up the bigger Spotlight window and on the right side where it has the various search criteria, do you see the Windows drive listed there? Try clicking on it and then entering your search string in the text box.

oh sorry, I completely misread that :(

hmm.... I just tried a few things and it doesn't seem to want to co-operate on mine either... I wonder if this has something to do with the drive being formatted in NTFS

This is just a guess, but I bet Spotlight throws a little file on drives that it's not supposed to index. Since OS X can't write to NTFS, it's not able to write that file. Maybe? Do I get a cookie? Just a crumb?
