Boot camp + XP = My Hardware does not work

Hello,

On my iMac, I have Boot Camp, and I'm using Windows XP.

The Boot Camp works great, and my applications work flawlessly.

But anything related to hardware does not work: I cannot print; and I cannot use my Microphone for my speech-to-text software.

I don't need to print, but I really do want to use my speech to text (Dragon Naturally Speaking).

Is this normal -- that the hardware connections do not work under Boot Camp ?

Or is there something I can do to fix it ?

Just an FYI, there are many threads on this subject matter. When you finished installing XP did you put the Mac OS Install disk in to install all the drivers for Bootcamp? You have to do this step that is outlined in the Bootcamp instructions to get all the hardware to work...

I will search these threads, thanks. I didn't search because I thought it was something I did wrong, not a common problem.

I was very diligent about following the boot camp instructions exactly: but I can't recall if I did or not re-insert the disk.

I will now search the forum on this topic.

There's a quick way to find out, in the control panel of XP go to Add/Remove Programs and see if there are Bootcamp drivers or anything that says Apple.

Windows Driver Package -- Apple Inc. ( lots of these )

What do you think ?

Well, looks like you did install the drivers. Do you have XP SP3 installed? Did you by any chance update Bootcamp to 2.1 in XP?

There is the Bootcamp 2.1 update that needs to be installed before SP3 according to Apple..

Beyond that, I'm not sure. sorry

EDIT*** Doesn't sound like all the hardware isn't working just the print and the microphone. You may need to download Sigmatel drivers or Realtek drivers for the audio issue and as far as printing goes, did you load the drivers fro the printer. I know that's a stupid question but the easiest thing I can think of right now

I'm running Bootcamp with Vista and don't have problems, Didn't have any issues with XP either in Bootcamp. I know that I did have to fiddle with sound drivers to finally get them to work both input/output. As far as the printing goes, that could be a print driver issue for your specific printer..

BACK TO MAC !!!! Help ----BOOTCAMP problem

My 12 year old son - may God forgive him - wanted to play a windows game on his new macbook - he tried to install windows using bootcamp - windows wouldnt install -( he actually has ony got a windows upgrade disk). So now we are stuck - we cannot get back to Mac Tiger - all we get is windows and failing to install - when I press options button on start up I only get the windows hard disk option - noting else - what has happened and how do I get back to Mac.

Any advice appreciated!!

Unfortunately if you have not fixed your problem by now.. you do need to bring it to a mac store so they can restore the whole computer, i did the same thing and basically to make it simple.. windows over wrote all of mac on the computer and only a mac technician can restore it back.

Definitely sounds like OS X is gone. Can you check if the Windows C: drive is about as big as your entire hard drive? If so a complete reinstall of OSX is in your future...


We can help you get Windiws installed from an upgrade CD but first fix your OS X problems.
