I recently verified disk in Disk Utility and I was told I need to repair the HD. So Im waiting for 10.4.7 to be released. So im planning on when its released, to insert the CD, update to 10.4.7, when my iBook restarts after the update hold C, repair disk, and shut down. This would work right?... and when I turn on the iBook the next day after the shut down it would boot normally so I can eject the Cd, correct? Thx for the help!

Always REPAIR before UPDATING. If I read your OP correctly you are going to update first and then repair. That is a big no no if you are having problems with your hard drive.

As long as you have a Tiger Install Disk (which I assume since you are going to update to 10.4.7), then you can boot via the install CD, then use Disk Utilities to repair your hard drive. Once you have your hard drive running perfect, then you can update your system. Be sure to repair permissions and then repair the hard drive after updating your OS.

Repairing the drive after the update may be just precautionary, but it really is quite important that you repair it before the update. It's not difficult and it doesn't take long. Oh, and in case there's some confusion, this is unrelated to permissions or repairing permissions.

Oye.. i only repaired once. But when I did so, it repaired disk.. then the blue meter went again on it's own.. does that count as twice?

I would just like to highlight some things mentioned:

- Repairing permissions is different than repairing the hard drive.

- Repair permissions first, then repair your hard drive. Do this before installing any new software or updates.

- Repair your hard drive until no changes are made. MJ mentioned this as well. It is very important.

- After any significant change such as installing, removing or updating software, to be on the safe side it is always good to repair permissions and then repair the disk. The old adage an ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure.

- On a regular basis, say once per month, it is a good idea to repair permissions and then repair your hard drive.

- Hard drives can and do go bad. Just had one fail last week. Always backup your data on a regular basis.
