I have a 2008 MacPro and I normally leave it turned on and let it sleep when I'm not using it. However I had to shut it down a few days ago and after hitting the start button nothing happened -- just a gray screen. I restarted with the PRAM keys and it booted okay. Now I have to do this every time I boot it up.
Any idea what's going on -- could the MB battery be going bad?
Thanks
Alan

I've been having a similar problem for the last 6 months and haven't yet figured it out. But mine is probably a different issue. Mine is 2010 Quad 5,1 originally 2.8.

Well it is good that it is responding to key commands at least. Try booting up in verbose mode (hold command-V) to see where/what step it is hanging up on.
