Land of Beers
hi folks,

my mac won't boot anymore.
not even a grey screen, cursor or flashing question mark.

the screen stays black, it chimes when pressing the on-button but that's all, the powerindicator stays lit and there's a small thicking-noise that seems to come from a disk or a ventilator or something...

any tips or help is welcome!

thnks and greetings from belgium,
the land of beers! :)

Could be the video card, do you have another to try? Or perhaps another output on the video card you have?

mac pro 3.1 boot problem

after maybe 50 times trying to reboot,
it finaly started up, but the only app that works is safari, other apps give me the thicking-noise and then the app crashes...

i have no spare videocard to try out, thnx for the tip though.

bit clueless here about what this might be...

not sure but is it not possible to boot a MP without the video card installed and then remote login from another Mac/PC via Screen Share/VNC?

If yes then you can potentially eliminate the video card as a source of your problems?

i fixed it with this: http://macupgrade.eu/catalog/25-to-35-sata-ssd-hdd-converter-tray-p-367.html#.VFqSwIfpUUE, with this: http://macupgrade.eu/catalog/mercury-electra-ssd-240gb-3g-p-801.html#.VFqTLIfpUUE and with this little lifesaver: http://liondiskmaker.com

so it clearly was my disk that was giving up on me... thnx for the tips guys! i am so happy it runs smoothly again, oh and yosemite really flies on my old mac! Cheers folks

The HDD failure was indeed the first thing that came to mind! Glad you fixed it, enjoy your new flying machine! Cheers
