MP All Models Boot up problems on 2012 Mac Pro

My hard drive from a 2006 Mac Pro Intel Xeon won't boot up on my 2012 Mac Pro 3.2GHz Quad Core Intel Xeon.
2006 Mac Pro hard drive is OSX 10.7.5. 2012 Mac Pro is 10.13.6
I assumed it should be able to boot up. Any clues?

GPU driver support? A lot of GPUs post HD 5770 don't work with 10.7.

My graphics card is ATI Radeon HD 5770 so I assume it's the reason.

Therefore, would I have to update the OS say on a 2010 Mac Pro to be able to boot up in the 2012 model?

I had another go and the 2006 drive booted up on the 2012 Mac and I was able to clone as well.
I have no idea why it worked now and not before...
