Hi,

After installing XP (and Mac drivers) using BootCamp 1.1.2, things appeared to be working fine. When restarting in Windows at a later time XP "freezes" after login, just as the icons are appearing along the Windows task bar. The MacBook then needs a hard reboot. The problem seems to occur randomly; during subsequent attempts to run XP the "freeze" usually - sometimes XP freezes when the welcome sound is being played, "hanging" the sound itself! However, sometimes it boots into XP and runs okay without freezing.

Has anybody encountered/fixed a similar problem?

Thanks in advance.

My Core Duo iMac is doing the EXACT same thing you described. It started after a bootcamp driver update added the Apple Keyboard Driver so that is what I think the culprit my be.

Good luck and let me know if you have any luck narrowing this down.

Found this thread on Apple's BootCamp forum:

http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?threadID=717382&tstart=240

Followed the instructions in the thread to disable "brightness.exe" (by booting into XP SafeMode then running MSCONFIG) and that appears to have resolved my issue with the "freezing". Not sure what the executable "brightness.exe" is for, I can't find it on other XP machines I have; I assume that this is something from Apple? Anybody any ideas on what this particular executable is actually for (and why running it at startup on XP freezes the machine)?
