Bootcamp in Leopard

I just just sat here wondering what we expect to see from Bootcamp under Leopard (yes I am that bored!).

As far as I understand the current situation Bootcamp is just a beta (1.1.2 or something like that) and Leopard will see the final release. Will we see any changes / improvements in the final version? I only have two real requests and the are:

1. Not have to re-boot. Apple have a really cool fast-user switching 3D cube effect (you all know the one I mean) and that would be great to jump between Windows and OSX without having to re-boot.

2. To be able to drag and drop files between the two partitions (I know there is probably some formatting issue here between FAT32 and all the rest but I am sure there is a way around it).

I also hope that the final version will be able to upgrade the beta as I dont relish the prospect of trying to re-register with Microsoft.

SOrry, this is probably well known but what is apple's expected release date for Tiger? And what would a more accurate guess be? I can't wait for Bootcamp but one thing that will confuse me about a UB OS X is how will they get PPC users to not be attacked by attempts of bootcamp installation? do you think BC will become an emulator on PPC mac's similar to VPC except with an apple flair?

Leopard is due in spring, though we'll probably find out a lot more at MWSF, the release will probably be March-ish.

Just because most of the OS will be universal, doesn't mean it all has to be. They can stop PPC users from running BCA by making it Intel only. (Rosetta doesn't work in reverse, and I don't think that an i386 emulation layer for PPC is in the cards).

no, it's not being released in 5 weeks. some mac convention (can't recall the name right now) takes place in january and they are expected to release more details about leopard during the keynote presentation.

As for your questions, yes I would expect some changes between the beta and the final release, however I think apple is planning to stand by the Dual-Boot solution on this.

As for PPC version, I imagine bootcamp will probably just be like it is now, a stand alone piece of software that sets up your Mac for running windows and helps with the drivers. I imagine either A) The PPC version simply won't install bootcamp in your applications folder. or B) Bootcamp simply won't run on the PPC version.

I don't think bootcamp is going to be any more integrated with the OS than it is now, just still an application that will be included like Automator or Chess.

Well you know what I was taliking about, Tiger Leopard, wahtever... just wondering, whats i386 emulation? Don't you mean x86?

Well you know what I was talking about.

The '386 is the first of the 32 bit Intel chips and it's instruction set remains the heart of all intel processors (the x86 family) in 32 bit mode. If you want to emulate a Pentium chip you gotta start with the venerable '386.
