bootcamp nvidia driver 180.70

Hi

I installed nvidia driver 180.70 on Windows XP 32 bit on my alu MacBook. Now the auto brightness adjust and keyboard brightness controls don't work (though brightness adjustments via the nvidia control panel do).

Does anyone know a way to fix this or am I stuck as the driver didn't come with Apple's blessing?

This happened to me too, basically Nvidias own brightness settings override Apples. If you go into their settings app you can still change the brightness though, just without keyboard control.
There is a way to remove this from the drivers, if you edit the .inf file or something. I haven't tried it myself yet.

download InputRemapper. It will allow you to adjust kb backlight, screen brightness, custom key controls, fan speeds, and more. Be aware that this program coupled with certain versions of nvidia drivers produces the inability to sleep properly.

You could try a different driver I guess. 179.28 has Apple's blessings and it's only a little bit older than 180.70. It works lovely for me.

ok try'd this driver out call of duty 4 in bootcamp looks amazing but still laggy pretty much unplayable (u have to lower all graphic settings to play it)

also when playing left 4 dead at recommended settings it looks amazing but for some reason half way thru a board everything goes black and all i can see are the other players, which pretty much makes it unplayable

we are getting there but just not there yet....

Has anyone tried using nvidia's beta drivers? I tried installing the latest version 179.48 on my unibody MBP using xp 32bit and it gives me an error stating it can't find compatible drivers. i then uninstalled the boot camp drivers hoping that would allow it to install but no luck.

I've tried the laptopvideo2go drivers (185 and 182.05) and installed them successfully, but as soon as I restart it reverts to the old vga drivers stating they're not compatible. This is very frustrating >.<

anyone have a similar experience they were able to fix and how? Thanks

can I just ask a quick Q. Why do you guys install these other drivers? For hope for better performance? I found original drivers installed when I installed Vista/Bootcamp drivers have run any games I have thrown at it, Fallout3, L4D, Far Cry2, etc etc. So is it just for performance? Serious question. And if this is the case, I'm curious if I can get any better performance, what is a recommended stable driver to update to that's better than the stock drivers on vista/bootcamp drivers? thanks!

They are mainly for fixing gaming bugs/issue and such. There isn't a big performance between the the 179 series and 180. Maybe 1-2%.

alright thanks. I'm not running into many issues at all, so I think I'll stick with what was originally installed.. don't know if it was either 179 or 180 or what haha

the main reason we try to install the most recent driver is because Apple's stock GPU drivers tend to get outdated quite quickly and for those wishing to run more modern games (ie, Fall Out 3, Crysis, etc) you can gain a significant benefit installing a new driver. Supposedly, many actually do quite well with Nvidias more recent laptop gpu releases. The last Nvidia driver 179.48 beta, was released 2-11-09.
