Bootcamp Problem

I had previously partitioned my Imac with 25 gb so I could play my games in Windows.

Today I was trying to run Time-Machine to backup my files. There was a problem with the new Mybook external drive I had and it said that I was unable to save and it needed to be reformatted.

Stupid me didnt fully read (i know how dumb it sounds) and I hit erase the everything on the drive.

Little did I know, but it was actually the partition for windows that I erased. My external drive had come lose when I turned the machine and wasn't connected to the computer. I had assumed that I was reformatting the new drive; however I was actually destroying my partition.

I really need some help here.

I attempted to partition the drive again; however I am being told that the drive needs to be a single drive. I totally understand what needs to be done but I dont know where to find the drive.

Here is exactly what happens when I enter the Bootcamp utility:

"The startup disk must be formatted as a single Mac OS Extended (Journaled) volume or already partitioned by Boot Camp Assistant for installing Windows."


Please tell me what needs to be done. I didnt have anything other than games on windows, which isnt the end of the world, but I would like to have Widnows on here again.

Do a Time Machine backup of your system.

Go into your Leopard DVD > Utilities > Disk Utility.

Under there, choose your drive drive, erase the partition.

Under Utilities again, choose, "Restore from Time Machine backup."

I found the partition. It is labeled time machine backups. It is the 25 gb on my computer.

I backed up my computer on the mybook external drive I had. So what do I do now?

I attempted using bootcamp assistant but I cant get anywhere due to the partition already being there. How do I erase this partition?

I dont know what you mean by the leopard dvd. Are you telling me to use the leopard disk to get to erase the partition? I have my stuff backed up since yesterday, but isnt the partition going to be restored if I go back in time?

I deleted the information on the partition now. It was a partial backup of my timemachine files, which obviously didnt have enough room.

How do i get windows back on it?

How do I erase the partition?

You can erase the Windows partition by using Boot Camp Assistant
But in this case, you don't need to... cause you want to reinstall your OS X and your Windows partitions

If you have a full TM backup, then boot from your Leopard install disk
Open Disk Utility and completely erase your internal disk and format it Mac OS Extended (Journaled)

Once that is done, restore your Mac OS backup from Time Machine
You do this while booted from the Leopard install disk still

Now restart your machine and hold the option key
Select your internal drive
Boot into OS X
Remove the DVD

Go to Utilities> Boot Camp Assistant
Run Boot Camp Assistant and reinstall Windows
