Problem with mac book pro 2.4 heating up

Please post your average temp of your mbp in bootcamp. Please designate what version you have so we can compare. I am concerned b\c mine runs around 70C.

Mine also seems to be running very hot - so hot that I do not seem to be able to use it as a laptop - even the desk it is on top seems to get to a worrying temperature. I am monitoring this as it may be a reason for returning the laptop back to the shop. I could hear no fan noise - not certain if there should be any. A friend with a Dell advised that new batteries seem to behave like this for the first few days so I hope this may be the case.

Regards,
K.

smc fan control will always fix this problem in osx..np

i'm more worried about boot camp b\c its all beta and that could really break something. Also, there is no smc fan control equivalent for windows that i know of

SMC fancontrol dosen't fix any temperature problems in os x. you can only set the maximum or minimum fan speed.

for windows please use notebook hardware control (NHC), there you can undervolt your mac to become it cooler.

bootcamp is beta, true. but the mac hardware is quite the same as every pc.

idk i'm just worried b\c vista runs a good 10C hotter than osx and the fans rarely come on unless I really really push it..and it just brings it back down to about 70C again and stops..

Thank you for this - I will have a look at it when running OSX..

The problem would be with the Vista that I am currently running at work - it could be a worry if for some reasons the settings of the fan are not maintained when one switches from osx to vista.

Would the control of the fans be a santa rosa motherboard driver feature? If that is the case there should be an intel windows tool for controlling the fan. I will have a look tonight when I am back at home.

Anyone else knows anything more about this?

i found a tool in windows that could alter fan speeds, freeware and everything

can't recall the name

anyhow, it can't even detect the fans so I can't use it. I assume all vista programs would have the same problem..at least until apple releases more drivers

The macbook pro is only optimized for os x and not for xp. unfortunately the problem has every mbp where xp/vista is installed.

maybe vista gets hoter because aero is activated?

its not that it's running hotter..its that its running hotter and the fans still don't come on to cool it down

So this problem does not materialize when you run the laptop on OSX mode? In my case I think the laptop is getting hotter in either OSX and Vista..

May be it is the new batteries - I will give it a couple of days before I contact Apple..

Is there any way to undervolt my mac in Mac OS X?
I have a SR MBP and I want the processor to last a long time, I am worried as it runs at around 160 F or 70 C even when I have a nice cookie rack under it and the fan set at 6000 RPM while i'm running folding @ home.

Try the following CPU Temp/Volt Softwares

Can people with Bootcamp and SR MBP try the following softwares and post your finding?

RMClock: (This will tell you the CPU temp as well as vCore being utilize at various load)
http://cpu.rightmark.org/download/rmclock_225_bin.exe

CPU-Z: (Please check under Motherboard tab and see which 965 chipset was being used, was it PM965 or GM965?)
http://www.cpuid.com/download/cpu-z-140.zip

If it is GM965 chipset, it will run slightly hotter due to higher TDP.
