Sorry if this is a dumb question, or has been asked...I've looked around but not really found an answer or even seen this question. I know a decent amount about computers, but not a whole lot about upgrading operating systems...so I'm kind of lost and don't want to get stuck ordering the wrong version.

I plan on getting the windows 7 upgrade, but would like to make the jump to 64bit so that I can fully utilize my ram in the more intensive programs that I use daily. Is this even possible, or am I stuck with getting a 32bit version? If it would work, how hard would it be to accomplish? Will it mean I have to redo the bootcamp partition?

Thanks for any and all help!

PS. I have a new june '09 15" 2.66 unibody macbook pro if that makes any difference

Wirelessly posted (Mozilla/5.0 (iPhone; U; CPU iPhone OS 3_1 like Mac OS X; en-us) AppleWebKit/528.18 (KHTML, like Gecko) Version/4.0 Mobile/7C144 Safari/528.16)

As far as we know the upgrade you will buy contains both 64 and 32 bit versions as there do not seem to be separate listings for 32 and 64 bit editions. As suggested you will have to do a clean install according to the hideous chart. I'd link to it but am on my phone.

Doh...I should have just kept poking around the windows 7 upgrade site:eek::

"Can I upgrade from a 32-bit version of Windows to a 64-bit version of Windows?

No. If you are currently running a 32-bit version of Windows, you can only perform an upgrade to another 32-bit version of Windows. Similarly, if you are running a 64-bit version of Windows Vista, you can only perform an upgrade to another 64-bit version of Windows Vista.
If you want to move from a 32-bit version of Windows to a 64-bit version of Windows Vista, you'll need to back up your files and then perform a custom installation of the 64-bit version of Windows Vista. For more information, see Installing and reinstalling Windows.
For detailed information about installing and upgrading 32-bit and 64-bit versions of Windows, go to Installation choices for Windows Vista (32-bit) or Installation choices for Windows Vista (64-bit) online"

This came up when it was asking me which version I wanted. There was a little "help me choose" next to the 32 and 64 bit version:p

anyways, thanks for the answers guys!

In short summary. Upgrade pricing, answer seems to be yes! Upgrade install, answer appears to be no!

Here's the chart that should make it all clear. :p
