Hi there,
So I hope this is the right place to post this! I could use a little help, as I'm having a very specific problem...so I assume that there is a very specific solution that I have yet to find. I've hunted quite a lot on various sites and various help places and either haven't found something that matches what I have, or haven't found something that works or that I could understandably implement. So anyways, here I go.
I have an iMac early 2008 running Windows 7 64-bit. I initially had some problems with having it crash when doing anything BUT playing games, but this was quickly solved by turning off most of the desktop settings, and it never gave me a problem again.
I later re-installed after getting a new SSD and some new RAM (for the record, I've tested these both and there's no issues with them as far as I can tell); this time however, I got no end of problems when surfing online only - I'd be wandering around on the web and sooner or later (particularly on any website with videos), the computer would crash into a black screen with a buzz.
So I re-installed Windows. And suddenly...all the problems just vanished on that round, and were good for months. Until about two weeks ago. During the last two weeks, I've started having crashing problems again. They only turn up in two situations.
1. Surfing online, where anything graphics-related seems to be happening.
2. Playing games - this is NEW, as I never had problems playing games before. But now, playing something like Civilization V is my test subject - I can scarcely get two turns in before the computer crashes with a black screen. Everything works fine until the game is actually PLAYING (the menus and everything before then don't seem to cause problems).
Does anyone over the years of experience here have some hints, tools, and tricks that might be able to identify and solve this problem? What's going on? And what do you need to know to help me solve this? I'm all ears.
Take care and have a great day...
