Bootcamp Windows 7(64bits) and Geforce GTX 470

I want to use a graphics card which is not supported by OSX with a Mac Pro 2008. On the Mac Pro 2008 there is already installed a Geforce 8800 GT. With bootcamp i want to use a GeForce GTX 470 graphics card only in Windows 7 - 64bit. I dont need the GeForce GTX 470 in OSX. Does the Mac Pro 2008(2x2.8ghz quadcore) have enough pci-slot-space to install both Geforce 8800 GT and the Geforce GTX 470?

Should these steps work:

1. Install the Geforce GTX 470 in the second pci-slot.
2. Only connect the DVI-cable of the Geforce 8800 GT to a monitor and start the Mac-OSX with Geforce 8800 GT.
3. Install Bootcamp en install in here Windows 7 - 64 bit.
4. Start Windows 7 - 64 bit with Bootcamp. Connect a new DVI-cable from the Geforce GTX 470 to a new monitor(or the same).

Will i be able to use the Geforce GTX 470 succesfully after step 4? If yes, after i install the newest drivers of Geforce GTX 470 for the Windows 7 - 64 bit OS and Bootcamp, will the video editing programs such as Premiere Pro and Powerdirector support the Geforce GTX 470 without any problems?

Will the motherboard(or other components) of the Mac Pro be damaged in a way if i put these 2 graphics card in the pci-slots?

Can the powersupply of a Mac Pro 2008 handle both cards? Does it matter if the cards arent of the same model? I just want to use Geforce GTX 470 with bootcamp and Geforce 8800 GT with Mac-OSX.

After installation of the GTX 470 in the second pci-slot, do i have to connect this card to the powersupply with a cable? How do i do this for both cards and which cables do i need for this? And is there something else i should do?

I had read somewhere that there could be needed an extern powersupply, but couldnt i just use the standard powersupply of the Mac Pro 2008 for both videocards(since it should be supporting 900-1000Watt if i am not wrong)?

Feel free to use both the "search" function here and "Google" in general. These questions have been answered a few dozen times, should not be too difficult to find an answer. In fact, you can use the GTX470 in OSX with a simple little kext added to your System folder.

You can be sure about the fact that i have searched for a long time, but there is just not enough information about the GTX 470. At least, i could not found the specific information/tutorial for the GTX 470.

But what i dont understand is if i do have to flash the videocard, even if i only want to use the card with bootcamp(windows 7) and not with Mac-OSX?

The question is simple, can i first install both cards in the motherboard(without flasing the GTX 470), use the 8800 GT to boot Mac-OSX, and use the GTX 470 only after booting Windows 7 - 64bit with Bootcamp?

At this video(http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lMiAgsr8m9M) someone shows how to install the two HD 5870 cards and the powerconnector cables. But this is done for a 12core Mac Pro, will the same powerconnector configuration be possible for a 2008 Mac Pro? Is there a powerconnector splitter which is compatible with a 2008 Mac Pro(and will it work with that kind of splitter)? Which brand do you recommend?

I dont understand what you mean with this? What is ATY_Init and is this needed to let the GTX 470 work on the operating system OSX or also needed for Bootcamp-Windows7?

In fact, this is exactly what I do! And it works great.

The ATY_Init is a file thats necessary in order for Mac OSX to utilize the GTX 470.

If you'd like, use something like this to install the ATY_Init.kext:

Obviously, install the ATY_Init with your current configuration, and then pop in the GTX470 (at least, I'm pretty sure that's what you should do.)

The only thing about the GTX 470 is you will not see the boot screen. Just wait about 30 seconds to a minute and you'll see the login screen for OSX eventually.

You'll also want to install Bootchamp. Makes it way easier to boot into Windows from Mac OS X. Hope this helps. Sorry people on this forum don't like to help. (Then again, this information is floating around on here somewhere.)

Is there chance for kernel panics(will the system run stable as normally with Mac OSX and Bootcamp), and also in this situation where you use the GTX 470 as the only graphics card, what is the maximum damage that can be caused? Is this killing the graphics card, or could the motherboard also be damaged?

With Bootcamp, will Premiere Pro and Powerdirector recognize the GTX 470 and will they make fully use of the GTX 470? Together with the ATY_Init configuration, do i still need to install the newest GTX 470 drivers in Windows 7? That's a lot of questions. Why not get another Mac Power cable and you will find that you will get the answers to 90% of these questions yourself. You can probably get by with a power splitter but then you might burn out your logic board if you stress both cards at once.

I have a Mac Pro 1,1 but it should be the same process. Since you're not actually flashing the video card, there should be no adverse effects what so ever. Your just installing a kext in Mac OS that will allow Mac OS to utilize the card properly.

I've never had any kernel panics. Also, if you get this working, NEVER use the bootcamp taskbar utility in Windows to tell the system to reboot into Windows. If you do, it will make Windows as the default boot system. Since you can't see the boot menu, this makes it a huge pain to change the default boot drive back to your Mac install. I learned the hard way.

If you use the proper power cables, there should not be any issues in terms of hardware. Everything should just work properly.

I would also like to know what AGPM is too. I haven't removed it/I'm not sure what it is.
