hey guys

i recently got a mac and i was wondering a few things about boot camp...

1. Does boot camp cost money?
2. If i get it can i run any free online game on it?
3. Does it work like a virtual pc?
4. How does it work?

if anyone can help me with that, that would be great! thanks :)

Boot Camp doesn't work on it's own. You also need to install Windows as well.

Welcome to the MR forums!

All Bootcamp is, is a program to configure a Windows install on your Mac, by setting up a Windows partition. Then it tells you to go install Windows. Afterwards if you are running Snow Leopard, there are Windoes drivers on your Mac install DVD to get your Mac hardware communicating with Windows. If running Lion (which I am not) I don't know where the drivers come from exactly as there is no longer an install DVD. The Bootcamp install guide should tell you.

Be sure you print out the Bootcamp Install instructions before hand. While it's not hard to do, you'll need this info as you proceed. I can guarantee it. :)

The bootcamp program will prepare a driver DVD for you before you begin the process.

I recently set up bootcamp. Now I can buy first run PC video games for the first time in years. It will definitely be worth it, though my productivity may suffer.

Ok thanks guys :)

so if I'm understanding correctly what boot camp does is makes a windows partition on my mac, like say when you turn on the computer you have a choice to either go to the mac os or the windows xp?

i know at the college the library has that on there iMacs, you turn it on you can choose windows xp or mac format I'm guessing thats what boot camp is right?

is there any youtube videos that shows you step by step?

sorry i ask all this I'm just new to the mac, i recently tried cross over but it didn't work well :(.....
thanks again guys

on your mac in utilitizes you should have bootcamp assistant

this will step by step walk you through making the partition, installing windows from your cd, create the drivers required to use your mac in the windows enviroment, than yes once its all said and down everytime you reboot and you hear that chime hold option key to get the choice screen

once you in windows its like using any other windows based computer

Thanks so much man!!!!!!!!

one last question ahhaha should i buy a cd and burn a copy?
its asking to burn a copy onto a disc or to put it to a external drive??
