I have just brought out a Macintosh Plus 1MB from the attic which I last used in 1989. It has no floppy disks or hard disks with it. On power-on, it beeps many times and a bright spot appears in the middle of the screen. I have removed the corroded AA battery from the rear and have not replaced it.

If I bought a boot disk, e.g. " Macintosh 800K Boot Disk - System Software + Games (for Plus, SE, Classic)" from eBay, do you think that it would boot or do you think that the symptoms that I've described indicate something wrong?

I live in Henfield, West Sussex, near Brighton, England.

I would be very grateful for advice.

There's a classic Mac section here at MacRumors where you might find more help.

There's also a website called:
... where you might find answers.

Other thoughts...
Put a replacement battery in. You want that.

I had a Mac SE (not a Plus), but I recall that a common problem with the Plus was a failed power supply.

Could also be bad contacts (dirt, tarnishing) between RAM and RAM slots. It's been so long, can't remember if the 1mb had removable SIMMs or not...

Thank you.
