hi, I'm trying to make this work:
Power Mac G3 B&W rev.1
SATA to IDE adapter with an SSD (240GB seen as 128GB) connected as master on the first IDE port on the cable (of the integrated ATA, not the infamous integrated PCI one)
A DVD drive set as save on the last port of the same cable.
in Mac OS 9 they're both recognized, I can format the SSD and read, eject the DVD drive
what doesn't work is to boot from the DVD drive.
if I set it to master and set the SSD as slave then I can boot from the CD by holding C.
I'd like to have the SSD set to master because I'd like to install Windows NT and the ARC firmware can't find any HD connected to the IDE bus but when I set it to master it can't boot from the DVD drive anymore.
I've tried different CDs, Windows NT, OS 9, Jaguar and none works, they all work if I set the DVD as master and the SSD as slave.
I've already tried to press Z instead of C to see if maybe the alias points to the wrong device but to no avail.
I'd have to try another IDE drive, but I have none.
well, I could move my main IDE drive with OS 9 on it and sacrifice it to Win NT but I don't feel like formatting it, right now.
maybe I could only try to see if gets recognized as slave by the ARC firmware or see if I can boot from CD with the drive set to slave.
do you have any suggestion?
thanks.

You mean for both DVD drive and SSD adapter?
Only the DVD drive has the option to set it to CS, the SATA adapter only has a master/slave jumper.
I’ve already tried CS on the DVD drive but to no avail.
I‘ll clone my main IDE HD (OS 9) on the SSD and I’ll try to put the IDE HD on the DVD drive channel.
