I have the first intel mac mini which is early 2006 model. I have upgraded the processor to 2.0 GHZ Core 2 Due. I have 2gb ram and 500 gb hard disk. The computer orignally had the Tiger operating system. I formatted the 500 gb hard disk and installed the Snow Leopard operting system. I also installed Windows 7 using Boot Camp. At this stage I had not installed any other software in the system. The Mac Mini would boot very quickly in the Snow Leopard O/S. I had not timed it but I feel the booting time was less than 1 minute. At this stage I had made a full backup of the system by using Time Machine.
Over a period of time I had installed a number of software such as iphoto 2008, iweb 2008, a website creation program etc. Now I am observing that the booting time is more than 1 minute. I have also removed all unneccessary program from the start up programs. Even this did not reduce the booting time.
I use my mac for writing a quick email or web browsing. Therefore a fast booting time is important for me. Shall I format the hard disk and restore everything from my original Time Machine backup (when the booting time was very less)? I can do without the additional software which I have installed (which I hardly use). Or is there some way I can keep the additional software and still reduce the booting time?
