I have seen discussion about booting up in 64 bit configuration. How does one do that?? I have read that you hold down the 6 and 4 keys during boot up. Didn't work for me with my I7. How does one really check on this??? My understanding Snow Leopard is 32 bit on boot up by default.

The monitor application in utilities will tell you what is 64bit and what is not.

Thanks everyone for the great responses. Exactly what I was looking for.

Hum, it does not boot to 64 bits by default?

When I look at the application that shows me what's running, pretty much everything shows at 64 bits

The applications run at 64-bit, but the Kernel boots to 32-bit by default.

It shows so in Activity Monitor if you select SHOW ALL PROCESSES and take a look at kernel_task.
