Last night I put my 27 inch mid 2011 3.1GHZ to sleep after watching a movie. Today I've gone to wake it and it woke to a frozen screen, no response at all.

I did a hard shut down and started it up and it boots to a black screen with lots of white vertical lines and does nothing.

If I hold option I can access the booting hard drive option screen.

Resetting the PRAM does nothing. I'm all out of ideas. Do you guys think it's the hard drive that's gone or the motherboard?

Thank you so much for your help guys

Sounds like maybe the GPU/logic board. I'd try to start up the AHT and see if that kicks anything out, otherwise, give Apple a call.

My 2008 iMac did that a couple years ago. Kept getting worse. Sold it to Apple BuyBack for 100.00, I believe. Used my old Sony Vaio for awhile. Then bought my rMBP. Hope you have better luck.

I don't have a Windows pc. Have a 2015 rMBP. Not going back to Windows or Android. Too much of family invested in Apple. Wanting an iMac 4k later this year. May keep the rMBP. :)
