Hi!

I´m quite exited regarding the thread with NVMe driver but I got a problem. I have bought a Samsung NVMe 512 GB M2 and when I have the blade inserted in the PCIe slot (with adapter of course) the bootscreen goes away??
If I remove the blade, the bootscreen returns. I have a cMP 5,1 and earlier I had a SSD from OWC on one of their adaptors (Sonnet) and I had the same problem. I returned to Sonnets homepage and they stated there that their SSD adaptor did not support Bootscreen in cMP 5,1. They supported Bootscreen in 4,1 but not 5,1. Is this a known issue between 5,1 and 4,1?

So, are there any of you that recognize this problem? What can I do? I am trying to get my cMP 5,1 to boot from NVMe blade. I do have my ADM Radeon HD 7950 Mac Edition mounted and the switch in mac mode.

Best regards

"Boot screen" is more for "the ability of displaying something", not the "ability to use boot manager".

AFAIK, the Sonnet card only breaks the boot manager, but not the boot screen. e.g. you can still upgrade firmware with Sonnet Tempo SSD card installed. Or Single user mode still works.

To boot from NVMe, unless you mod the firmware already. Of course it won't shows up in the boot manager, because it's not natively supported.

Hi and thank you all (crjackson2134, h982679)!

I´m sorry it was late yesterday and I have been following the bootflash thread for a week, so this is my problem;

I can not choose startup disk while holding down alt-key at start up. I only get white screen when booting from my SSD in bay 1 (SH 10.13.4). My cMP will not let me choose while the Samsung EVO 960 adaptor is mounted (slot 3-the PCIe-switch slot). When I pull the adaptor out the cMP 5,1 gets its bootscreen/alt-key function back. This is why I´m "babling" about my old set up with Sonnet. Sorry got confusing. So;

It is the alt-key at start up. No screen there while the "blade" is there. If I clone the SSD in bay 1 to the "Blade" I can see it in the bootmanager, in prefereces.

Best regards

Did you flash your bootROM for NVME DXE booting ?

Have you done any other NVMe hacks ?

Okay, I can only guess here but... It’s probably trying to identify and make a connection with the drive.

My NGFF drive is an Apple SSUBX and does something similar in Slots 3/4. What PCIe adapter are you using?

Mine will eventually display but it can take 1-2 full minutes. How long have you allowed it to sit on that screen before giving up?

That may not be your answer, but it’s worth trying.

Also, I can put mine in Slot 2 and it’s a pretty fast boot process by comparison (including the boot manager screen) so you mught want to try Slot 2 but be aware it will run at 1/2 speed in that slot.

Hi MIKX!

No, not yet. I want to fix this first. I´m on untouched BootRom. I might think it is the adaptor that mess up the alt-key boot-thing.

If you haven't flashed the bootROM yet then your 5,1 High Sierra CANNOT boot natively from NVMe at all.
. . except in a Fusion setup which i have up and running ( foxfoobar's hack ).

If I understand correctly, he’s not trying to boot from it. He’s being blocked from seeing the boot manager at all times when the card is installed.

Well, well!!

Updated to Sierra High 10.13.5 and it fixed my Bootscreen. Everything is back to normal.

Have you done the DXE_NVMe "boot from NVMe yet ? I

Also, which Samsung blade do you have ? ( I have the 960 EVO )

Samsung blades are not 4k compatible but Gilles says the eDXE injection will work in High Sierra.

It would be nice to see that Samsung blades DO boot with the new 10.13.5 upgrade and the new bootROM too.
