Bought 4gigs of memory and realize i made a mistake... help!

Ok, i bought 4 gigs of RAM for my macbook 1.83ghz Intel core duo. Reviews had suggested it would work so i spent the money on it, and when i got the ram seated (which i have experience in so i know it was in properly) it wouldn't turn on... at all. it made a funny noise and was stuck in a reboot loop. After reviewing a lot of other forums i came to the conclusion that my computer would not support the memory and that i should go here (http://www.crucial.com/store/listparts.aspx?model=MacBook 1.83GHz Intel Core Duo (13-inch White)) to find the ram that is compatible with my computer. I would like to upgrade to 2 gigs of ram, because i play online games on my mac, as well as multitask with music recording and editing, and i wanted to know if 2 gigs was worth the $50 invesment. Hope you can help, i'm already down 100 bucks.

CD's only accept 2 Gig max... But yes 2 gig is necessary in my opinion.
