I bought an iPad Mini 4 this evening, through CL, and it turns out it’s probably stolen? Not really sure what I was thinking.

So it was new in package and the guy had a seemingly legit story. I didn’t examine close enough and the box says “Demo- not for resale.”

Works perfectly fine after a DFU restore, but when I check the serial, there’s no info on a purchase date.

What happens now? The police show up eventually, or Apple bricks it?

Some retailers are provided with "demo" (store display) units from Apple which come at a lower cost than the regular units. It's basically a standard issue iPad which comes pre-loaded with some demo apps and other useful stuff. I worked at an Apple retailer myself for many years and we sometimes sold these units off dirt cheap to regular customers after a new model was released, so I'm guessing that's what happened in your case. No need to worry :)
