I live in New Mexico but was in San Jose Cali yesterday. I went by the apple store there and was playing with the black mb. I have looked for months and months online at this laptop but never had a chance to put my hands on one. I fell inlove instanlty. I ask the guy do you have this instock with the 2gb of memory and the 160gb hd. He said of course. I said lets do it. I also want Applecare. He said great choice. Doesnt really help me or anything. He goes to the back and comes back two min later. oh we are out of the 160gb but have the 120gb. I was like well do you have it with the 2gb memory. He said yeah then was like wait. We only have the same that are on display. the 1gb with 120gb hd. I usually only buy exactly what I want...but was liking to compromise...but not even getting either/or of what I really wanted blew it. I told him so the only way to get what I want is to order it on apple.com...he said yup..I said ok. thanks bye bye.

So I walked out. Yes I can order it online...but everytime I sit here at my computer I tell myself just wait for the upgrade and leapord. Which sucks because I have been waiting and waiting. What kills me is the guy at the appel store really didnt even give a **** about what I wanted then tried to tell me he had it then didnt even come close.
oh well.

People are constently wondering if they should wait for leopard or santa rosa. My feelings are if you want a notebook that packs a punch then go and buy it. Software is upgradable and some hardware. Do what feels right for you.

I have the white 2.0 GHz Macbook, aftermarket upgraded 2 GB RAM.

You will not regret the Macbook. It is fast, has a sleek interface, and has a slick external design.

If you want it, you don't need to get it from an Apple store. Just order it online.

But, if you don't need a laptop right away, might as well wait till Leopard, which is probably at least 3 months away.

i almost ordered a black refurbished core duo macbook. i refrained, because i already have a macbook, a white core 2 duo. am i nuts for wanting another macbook?

why would you want to buy ram from apple knowing that theirs is overpriced? it much cheaper to get it from third party sellers as i'm sure you already know. even the hard drive, you can change it yourself without voiding warranty so you can upgrade your at anytime :D

arrghh! same here!

I had the same thing! I wanted to buy my first Mac - White Macbook 2ghz, 2gb of RAM, 120gb HDD. I went to my nearest apple store which is still a bit of a trek, thinking I would come back with a Mac. To my surprise, I found out taht they won't readily configure them for you. One of the store people was saying that I would end up paying for 2 lots of Ram, The 2x512 and the 2X1gb, which I really can't afford. And then she said that they wouldn't upgrade the Hard Drive at all. :(

I'm ordering my macbook off the internet later today though, so its not so bad i guess :S

I wouldn't say "at least" three months. It will be released within the next three months and two weeks (ie: before the end of spring). It may even be released in April, but more likely it'll be May.

Can't they do that kind of thing on-site? I know some machines would be harder to upgrade than others, and iMacs/Mac Minis would have to be custom ordered, but the MacBook... it's three screws and you've got access to everything, it takes ten minutes tops. I'm surprised they won't do that kind of thing on the spot.

You're right. I forgot that extremely complex software (such as a new OS) is always on schedule :)

It might be late. But it's pretty unlikely, especially considering only last week Apple have said it's being released this spring. Saying it's deffinitely going to be late is a bit of a stretch, especially when you're giving someone else (bad) buying advice.

Leopard will be out by June 20th at the latest, unless something goes seriously wrong. Probably sooner.

If you read my original post, I said probably, not definitely. I'd say it may or may not come before June 20th...I certainly wouldn't place any bets on it.

or maybe you could buy it, upgrade the RAM and hard drive for the same price and have extra RAM and a extra 120gb hard drive?

Hi there, I'm new here and I'm just about to make the switch over to :apple: but one thing has been nagging me... I know the new OS is just around the corner and new hardware too possibly.

To be honest I don't really care, if I want the OS I'll upgrade, and as for the hardware, I'm happy with the spec I'm looking at now. What I was wondering is when/if they upgrade the macbook pro models will they be in the same price scale as just now? What would suck would be paying a huge amount of cash only to find that the exact same model slides down the scale drastically in a month or so after being at a constant price for so long (I think it has been at least:confused:).

when apple unveils new products, they remove older models on their site. i imagine they move them to the refurbished store some time later. current core duo macbooks sell for about 30% off retail in the refurbished store, and i imagine core 2 duos to be priced similarly when replacement macbooks and macbook pros (macbooks pro?) debut. either way, i'd feel very comfortable buying a macbook now. good luck on your purchase.

I bought a MacBook Pro in November and I absolutely love it. I'm not sure where you live in NM, but we have an apple store in Albuquerque now. It's in the new uptown shopping center across from Winrock Mall. I've bought a few things there and have been pretty happy. If you can wait for the new OS I would. I was waiting for the C2D and was going crazy, but I'm really happy that I waited for the new processor. Whatever you choose to do enjoy your new mac :)

It really depends on what you are using it for... the C2D is a great processor that is basically just going to get a speed bump with Santa Rosa... as far as Leopard goes, is waiting another 1/2/3 months or spending an extra $100 going to satisfy you? In this case, I would say buy the MB now. The MBPs are more likely to recieve the upgrade before the MacBooks, anyways.

i will be in vegas end of next week. thinking about buying a mb there...what do u all think that chances are of them offering something the following week at NAB? last year they introduced the 17" mbp there. do you all think any hardware updates will happen there. either in mb or mbp

Well, you're in Vegas, so bet your MacBook money on Leopard shipping June 11th. Collect your winnings June 12th then cross the road to the Apple store.
