I got the itch to upgrade my Lumia 520 for something more substantial, and you can't get any bigger than the 1520! Will give a review tomorrow after I have had a chance to modify it to my liking and move my 520 info over to it.

I was gonna pick up the 1020, but the latest gen specs and amazing screen quality pushed me to the 1520. It sucks that the ATT version doesn't have Qi wireless charging, but with that massive battery of 3400mA, I don't see the need for wireless charging like I do with my Nexus devices.

And since I was looking at a Windows phone, my wife decided she was going to go back to using an iPhone (she was using the HTC One) and got the gold colored 5S version. Just looking at the iPhone compared to the Nexus 5 (the 5S can fit comfortably inside the Nexus 5). Compared to the 1520, fugitaboutit. The 5S still has a nice look to it, just not a fan of the 16:9 ratio. At least now I can compare specs on a wide range of new phones from all 3 OS's out there.

Any other 1520 users out there?

Have been looking at it as I too was looking at 1020 for the camera but the dual core processor and 720p screen made me think twice. I am also used yo bigger screen device with my note 3 and so thought about getting the 1520 instead to try.

But in all likelihood I'm going to wait for the 1020 successor with hopefully 5"+ screen, 1080p screen, quad core, 2-3gb ram and 41-45mp camera.....

Please do some camera comparisons between devices.

I always get a chuckle out of this argument against the iPhone. What screen ratio do you think your Lumia 1520 uses? Or the Nexus 5? Or the Galaxy Note 3? Or nearly every other smartphone on the market? ;)

I know you're more likely referring to the long, skinny form factor but that's due to the large top and bottom bezels--has nothing to do with the display ratio.

Anyways, enjoy your new phone. I've been biting my lip hard to stick with just one device for the immediate future--not an easy task with some many shiny goodies out there.

The 1520 looks like something I might be interested in. I'd probably want to start out with a slightly cheaper model before I decide to go full throttle Windows.

Wish the bezels were a lot smaller though. I wonder what the dimensions are like stacked up against the Note 3

The Nokia 521 will work for me. It is actually my 4th smartphone, two flagships and two other toys basically. I'm hoding unto the HTC One for trade or sell it outright if I want another flagship down the road. I want to see what Apple does as far as a bigger display, until then I'm not going for any of theirs regardless.

I may move to something else for Windows WHEN 8.! hits!! That's what I thought you were waiting for. Until then, the 521 is a nice toy.

A used 920 goes for around $200. I also picked up a 520 for $60 the other day for a backup and to get my feet wet with Windows Phone.

I was going to wait, but I was enticed by the 1520 while my wife was picking out her iPhone 5S. The screen is just beautiful and having 3 tiles in a row vs 2 tiles, allows me to put all of my live tiles on the main screen. I actually don't have a need for notification center now, since everything is on the main screen. And the battery! OMG the battery! Lasts forever.

I look like a moron trying to make a call though, cause the phone is so big, so have to look into one of those new micro ear BT earpieces that are barely noticable in the ear. But that huge screen pays dividends when using the internet and watching movies. Having a 64gb micro sd card slot for music and video just made this a must buy for me. Don't think I will be using my Nexus 7 much any more. Gonna be the Lumia 1520 and my iPad Mini now. My Nexus 5 will be my backup phone.

The 920 (or 925) is also a great phone, but 4.5" and smaller displays are to small for my aging eyes. I dipped my toes in the water with the 520 and just love the OS now thanks to that phone.

Looks like I will be selling my unlocked 520 now on Craigslist. No reason to keep it any more. :D It will be fondly remembered though.

Note 3 is smaller in every way. Slimmer profile. Lighter weight. More premium feel and look.

Yeah, sorry I was referring to the long skinny form factor. It just doesn't look right to me. But, I'm being hypocritical considering how stupid I look with a tablet next to my head now. LOL :p

I will do some camera comparisons (indoor only though, because in bright sunlight most phone cameras look good) between the Nexus 5 (with the new camera software), the 5S, the HTC One and the 1520.

And if a successor comes out to the 1020 with a 5 inch screen and the top specs, I'll get it. Only reason I didn't get the 1020 was for the reasons you mentioned. Glad I didn't.

Bought an iPhone 5S and a Lumia 1520 today

I might try to swing one off Craigslist but I haven't seen one in my area. Do you know if any of the MVNO's offer these same prices with their pre paid plans? I'm thinking this could be another route to go for a nice throwaway line/phone.

My main concern:

Will these Nokia lumia phones still get support after the Nokia mobile division has closed?

Are they gonna receive the next big WP update?

Is Nokia gonna still make phones? I thought they were done...

The worst thing is Microsoft is taking too long to release updates to WP...

Metro PCS has the 521 (same as 520) for $30 right now. MS has the att 520 for $60 and the t mobile 521 for $70 as well.

I was in the AT&T store after Christmas getting a case for my son's iPhone 5C and saw the 1520 on the wall. After being on iOS since the first gen iPhone I guess I just went a little crazy and decided to get the phablet and change to Windows Phone.....and I love it.

The three rows of live tiles are awesome. What really has me loving it is how well it integrates into my work...duh...it's Windows. From pics of all my co-workers in emails to the fully functional Office app to accessing every file I work on, wow.

The Windows phone app on my computer transfers my iTunes music that I want to the phone. Also, bucked up and bought a super nice set of bluetooth headphones (Jaybird Bluebuds X) to work out in and talk on the phone.

I wasn't worried too much about looking weird with a big red phablet next to my face...I text and email for the most part.

Super fast, great device and every app that I wanted.

That is what hooked me with the 520. Dipped my toes in the WP waters and love it. Might be because it is different from iOS and Android, I don't know? But I am giving myself a couple of days with the 1520 before I give a nice comparo with pics between the 5S, HTC One, Nexus 5, the 520 and the 1520. :D
But loving my 1520 thus far. The 3 tiles across makes a huge difference from all the other phones with only 2 tiles across. Makes it so much easier to get all my live tiles and info on one screen without the need for scrolling. :D

If the Metro PCS is $30 AND unlocked, that is a deal.

BTW, had to return the iPhone 5S today do to a dead pixel right in the middle of the screen. The phone was perfect otherwise. The new 5S is perfect. Made sure before we left the store this time! :p
