I'm pretty sure it's jail broken. When the apple logo appears and about 10 seconds later it flashes out with blue behind it. It's the iPhone 4. I don't know what version. How do I unjailbreak it? When I connect to my computer, which is windows xp it keeps saying it won't recognize my USB. I tried DFU and everything. Still when I do DFU, it keeps saying unable to recognize USB. I have the latest iTunes, I re installed it and everything. Still does not work.

Also, When I go through the steps like pick my language and where I live and at the in it will say WiFi or connect to iTunes. Well when i connect to WiFi and will say activating processing and then say it won't activate. and when I connect to iTunes, well it won't recognize USB.

Any clues? I would like to be unjailbreak and back to factory settings. I don't care about what is on the iPhone. Just want it back to factory.

Thanks!!

What you are describing has nothing to do with being Jailbroken phone.

If it does not recognise the phone in itunes through usb, you may have a hardware fault. You can always put it in DFU, but if your computer can't recognise the phone, then you can't restore it to default.

From what I am reading, looks like you bought a dud.

I agree with dextr3k - if I were you I would open a case if you bought it on ebay. Follow the steps out there for DFU and if not, contact the seller. Were there any odd apps/stuff on it? Do you see Cydia store?

I've follow the steps for DFU. I can turn the phone on and off. Just it is stuck on the setup screen. I can't activate the phone and I can't connect to iTunes.

Edited: Also it has to be jail broken, right? Because when I start the phone, the Apple Logo has blue around it and that is not normal.

Yeah, it was cheap and I figured something was wrong with it. Just didn't think it through quick enough. Was in a rush. >.< Any who, I'll post a video of what the start up looks like in a second and what the USB does.

I tried 2 Different computers with both Windows XP. Still no luck. Tried different USB Cables, no luck. Doesn't even charge to the wall outlet. >.> I'll be trying on a Windows 7 later on today. Is there any possible way to fix it?

Also, I didn't know about the blue. I'm new to iPhones. Had an iPod Touch and that was before iOS 5 I believe or I just never realize the blue with Apple. :apple:

No, if its not even charging, you most likely have a messed up dock port.

Sorry, this means you cant restore it, but if you are handy with tinkering, i believe that port is relatively easy to replace. Try ifixit for a guide and see if you are up to the task.

Man I would just try and get my money back if I were you. Somebody screwed you over big time.

Did you get it on eBay? If so, you can open a complaint and get your money back.

Just set up the phone through that menu, then once you are in go to Settings>General>Reset>Reset All Content and Settings

That's as close as you are going to get to factory reset.

Also, there is nothing wrong with having a jailbroken phone (even though I don't think yours is jailbroken).

Can't get pass activation screen.

Bought it off craigslist from some chick who lied about it.

And yeah, I'm guessing the charging port is bad. I looked at it and it's very dirty and I believe it's broke.

Well, maybe try a wall charger?

It seems unlikely for you to buy one that can't be charged.

1) because she would have to know its broken BEFORE it went dead
2) sell it to you with battery left so you can mess around with it

Knowing iphone battery life, and the fact its stuck at the activation screen means that there must be someway of charging it. Do you have a friend with a mac? My iMac charges my iPad while PC's wont. So i think Macs might have different something in them?

Is there an Apple store somewhere by you? Did you try connecting the phone to another computer? Maybe get someone more tech-savvy to look at it for you.

If there's an apple store near you schedule a genius appointment.... Even if its out of warranty they aren't going to charge you to reset the phone. And if something is wrong with it hardware wise they will tell you how much it would cost to replace it before they do anything. Also if you have a friend with a Mac computer try using that to put it in DFU mode and see if iTunes recognizes it.

Ebay > Craigslist

True.
You should consider all of them liars until you inspect and verify everything on the phone works before you pay.
Tons of scams on CL.

I never understand why people buy from Craigslist rather than Ebay. There's a tremendous risk of getting scammed. :( I only trust CL for things like cars where I can go look and test the vehicle locally.

Ebay has gone overboard (at the seller's expense) to make sure you get your money back if scammed.

When I sell on eBay, Paypal locks up my funds for 3 weeks until the buyer is happy.

you bought a phone without even seeing if it worked first. I'm not trying to be rude or anything but I think this is a lesson that you will carry on forward and this won't happen again.
