Bought an unlocked iphone 3g. can I update it to 2.2.1 and jailbreak?

Hi There,

I bought an unlocked 3g off ebay. works great popped my sim in no problem.

only problem is that its on 2.1 fw, which Im assuming is how it got unlocked, although the person I bought from said it was unlocked by at&t?

anyway, I would like to get 2.2 on it so I can use facebook and other apps and I also really want to jailbreak so I can use pdanet. is there any way I can do this with this phone or would upgrading the firmware and using pwnage tool brick it because its already unlocked?

yes, you can upgrade to 2.2, jailbreak using quickpwn/pwnage and unlock again using yellowSn0w.

read this prior to updating with apple's firmware. It could be permanent so just read:

You can even upgrade to 2.2.1 if you wanted to, but you'll need a turbosim to unlock it. Turbosims can be found many places, try craigslist. If you end up upgrading to just 2.2, you won't need one.
