Bought iPhone - Apple sending FREE MacBook

just bought a new iPhone day before yesterday.
popped iPhone into charger and it synced with MB nicely.

but my bluetooth DIED. BT mouse and keyboard stopped working and wouldn't pair up again.

called applecare. they are replacing my 11-1/2 month old MB.

they will send out return labels and i should have a new upgraded MB in 3-6 days.
i hope it comes with leopard.

should i hold it a couple days so they won't receive until 10/26? or will that make a difference?
 
Did they say that you are getting the current model? They might just send you one of the Core Duos. A lot of companies keep older models in stock just for this reason.
 
I am pretty sure they are not going to send you an upgraded model unless they specifically mentioned they would.
 
they said i'd get a new model with 120 GB HDD. he said the package would be opened because they would test it first, but that it would be a new upgraded model and not a refurb. i asked him about that.

apparently, some of the older MB's they have found have a slight BT problem. he said they WANTED the old MB for diagnostics.

the question is:
should i hold onto my old MB a couple days or not?
i figure i should get the return box and labels about the 17 or 18th. if i send it out right away they will have the old MB about the 22 or 23rd and ship the next day 24 or 25th. Leopard comes out 26th!
 
Your never going to be sure if they will send you Leopard or not but its worth the wait. If you can hold back for a while and Leopard is announced or ships you may get what you want.

I'll say no do not hold it but your own personal greed will prevent you from listening to any user here that also says no. I believe you are getting a great deal from Apple hassle free. Your story is very opposite from other stories on this board. For that alone you should be grateful but why stop there right? The cost of Leopard alone should be a small price to pay considering you're getting not only a new, but an upgraded MB again hassle free. The upgrade is free so that should at least entice you to pay for Leopard. Either way, I believe the answer you are looking for is yes, hold that bad boy until the 26th and hope for Leopard. Otherwise, you've held onto your broken computer for 10 extra days for nothing. The choice is yours. I for one would return it to get that nice new shiny updated machine asap. I have less patience for things like that though.

I would personally send my malfunctioning machine in as soon as I can, because there is no guarantee that leopard will be out by then and will be loaded in the machine that you will receive.
 
Nobody knows if 10.5 will be out by 26/10. Also, even if you do send it back once Leopard comes out, they don't have to send you a new machine with 10.5 and they likely won't honor the up to date thing since it's a replacement. Also, they might already have a machine set aside for you waiting to be sent out once your current laptop comes in.
 
ok. i've found in the past that you guys' opinions are generally pretty much on target. i'll send it back the next day after i get the shipping labels.

who knows – maybe i'll get leopard anyway, (that is IF indeed it is to be released on the 26th) speculation and greed has always been one of my problems, as well as the bane to mankind.

i'll still be extremely happy to get a brand new upgraded MB AND it will have a new warranty (won't it?).

These stories should be posted more often. A similar thing happened to me, with my refurbished MB. I had a few issues, and after going in and out of repairs a few times, apple decided to replace it with a brand new MB. I went from a C2D 2.0Ghz to a C2D 2.16 with the 120. The initially tried to replace it with the "new" 2.0Ghz model, but after I mentioned that I used the SuperDrive a lot he realized that he had made a mistake. But all in all I've had great customer service from apple. I actually ended up with a bizarre problem with that MB, and I've been bumped to a MBP (I did pay a bit for the difference). Don't worry, each time you get a new computer, you get a brand new warranty. Enjoy your additional 12 months!
 
This is the advantage of making a lot of money.

You can afford to be generous to make up for any problems.

It turns a bad situation into a good one and the customer continues to buy Apple products.
 
the strangest thing is – my MB has not EVER been in for repairs and this was my first call to applecare. first call and about 30 minutes on the phone! not even a callback about the problem! IT WAS ALL DONE ON THE FIRST CALL!
 
It almost certainly won't come with Leopard. When new operating systems come out, for the first month or so almost all new computers will have the old OS installed with the disc for the new OS in the box. However, since you wouldn't have Leopard unless you bought it retail, it won't have Leopard installed and they won't include the Leopard disc in the box that they send the new one in.

When i bought a new emac a few days after Tiger came out, it was already installed.

I'll post an update when the new MB arrives – (hopefully) about 10 days from now

PS – the iPhone rocks

no way man, they'll cover that bad boy for 12 months from when you receive it. Apple is really good about that kind of thing. :apple: :D :apple:
 
Apple's warranty on service parts is 90 days or left over warranty. If they replace with new product it has a new warranty. Buy AppleCare!
You're getting taken care of!

You'll also look a bit of a tool if you get a MB with a buggy bag o' bolts in 10.5.0 and no way back, instead of a nice stable 10.4.10, woncha?

I agree with the others, thank the heavenly powers you're getting a shiny new MB and don't look a gift horse in the mouth. Lady luck has a habit of turning if she thinks you're taking the pi$$! ;) :D

New machines get a new warranty. I had a machine replaced and my new one got a new warranty (I verified it with Apple themselves). They said I have 1 year from the time I got it to get applecare on the new machine.

Wrong. When mine was exchanged I was specifically told that the warranty always resets. If you transfer over an existing AppleCare plan, THAT will not reset, but you also are giving the option of a pro-rated refund on AC and re-purchasing it for the new machine.

Note that this only seems guaranteed to apply if you are receiving a NEW machine and not a refurb.

Applecare a few weeks ago replaced my 3 year old Powerbook on its 4th fried logic board with a new MB 2.16/120....with a FULL one year applecare cover......a full year not the balance of my Applecare.............which would have been 60 days........

And t was a brand new machine, sent to me from Ingram Micro in Jonestown PA......where ever that is......
