yeah, and i said i would never buy a tube lighted notebook ever again. <foot in mouth>
this screen is amazing. this laptop is amazing. the whole experience is spectacular!
when i took it out of the box i set it on the desk where i work at. i noticed it was not sitting on all 4 feet. the front right foot was off of the desk. i moved it to another desk to make sure it was the laptop and not the desk. it was indeed the laptop. so i put some pressure on the front right portion of the laptop where your right wrist would sit. after applying a decent amount of pressure, i now have a mbp with all four feet sitting on the table correctly. sweet!
also, the lid was cracked open more on the left side than the right side because of the issue with the casing not being perfectly flat. after i bended casing slightly, the issue had gone away and the lid is now uniformly even when closed. awesome!
i'm also happy to say i am selling my dell 24" monitor because this laptop totally pwnz with its huge screen real estate. its simply amazing.
one other thing i have noticed reading all of the 17" hi res reviews, nobody has complained about any dead pixels. it seems like apple definitely did some QC on these babies. i'm proud to say my 17" is also free of any dead pixels!
as everyone else has said, the screen is simplay amazing. the bottom corners do have very slight dark spots but nothing to be upset about. all of those pixels make up for it. i love having screen real estate. it's a must for my audio and photography stuff.

one other thing, when i bought this at the apple store, i didn't realize until after i had bought it that this 17" has the 7200rpm drive instead of teh 5400rpm drive. i thought the price seemed higher than i originally thought i was going to spend. when i opened it up out of the box, i read the specs on the box and realized it was the 7200rpm drive. ah well, a little speed never hurts anyone.
