Hi all

I bought a sealed new Ipad air from ebay US, I entered the serial number in Apple's website and it gives me back the following

Please validate your product's purchase date.
Apple is unable to provide information about your service coverage. Please sign in with your Apple ID and provide your product's date of purchase so that we can display your coverage information.

I already have an Apple ID so when I enter it it asks me for a date of purchase. Does this mean that I can decide when my 1 year warranty starts? I haven't opened it yet. Will the warranty work where I live in Slovakia and if so, what is covered?

Many thanks

Will

It means you may have a problem. The warranty started when someone in the USA bought the iPad. However, Apple doesn't seem to know the date when that was, and you don't know either. Apple gives 1 year manufacturer's warranty, which is valid everywhere in the world. Any Apple Store will handle this. Shops selling Apple hardware that are not Apple stores won't. You can send the iPad to Apple if you need warranty service.

If a product is sold in the EU, you have more rights beyond the manufacturer's warranty, but that doesn't apply when you bought in the USA.

Thanks for the response. So how do I find out when the warranty started? If someone else had indeed activated the ipad, shouldn't their current Apple details be listed with the serial number?

I had this issue when I gave my Ipad2 to a buddy back home in the states. After numerous calls to my Apple guru, we found out that because the device was crossing another countries borders, the remaining Applecare ( nearly two years) would not be carried over, and he had to purchase it again.

I fear you are going to be in the same boat, but give them a call...They are helpful folks.

Thanks. Is there a difference between the Apple Care product and the standard Manufacturer's warranty? Sorry I'm a complete noob so I do not know. But I know the Ipad Air was released only 5 months ago so there should still be some warranty left... I just am trying to figure out if it's worldwide and how long it is valid for.

Thanks for responding so fast :)

There is, but I think they are likely to invalidate it...Phone them and explain as it seems only fair that a sealed, new unit should have some form of cover regardless of where it goes.

A good starting point:

Hi guys

Just to give an update I was able to validate the purchase date on Apple's website and now have the limited warranty until February 2015 and 90 day phone support until May 2014.

I just opened the Ipad 2 days ago and I find the screen kinda yellowish compared to my ipad mini, the whites are not completely white... I read online that this is a common problem among Ipad Airs... If I take this to an authorized reseller in Bratislava SK where I live now, will they help me out or will they say tough luck you bought this in the US?

Really frustrated because the ipad was sealed and brand new :(

Here's a photo to show the difference... It's hard to tell with the photos but there is definitely a difference in real life, big enough to make me feel like upgrading from my 1st gen mini to the Ipad Air abit disappointing...

May I ask something? Which one was the first , you activated the ipad, or you validate the purchase date?

Thanksss

The OP hasn't posted anything here in 4 years. I wouldn't hold your breath waiting for a response.
