Bought son new IPOD for fun and messaging - question

Hi

I just bought my 10 year old son a new IPOD, he loves music, games etc but also so he and I can message. I set him up an account and added him to FAMILY. I have the account info. However I have never set someone up to do this

Can someone help me with the steps on the IPOD to set him up so we can message?

Also he is under my account, he is under strict orders not to buy an apps or games without my permision, but he doesn't live with me. Is there a way to control content and purchases for him?

iMessage can be set up with an email in the Settings app.


I'm not familiar enough with family sharing to help you there.
