I bit the bullet and spent $99 for a USB-C AirPods Pro case. It allowed me to get rid of all my Lighting cables. And yes – going all USB-C is as good as I thought it's be.

I travel a lot and having one universal cable for my Mac, iPhone, AirPods and iPad is great.

However–big caveat here–I got my AirPods Pro 2 as a gift over a year ago, so I never paid for them. It made shelling out $99 for the updated USB-C case make it not seem like that big of a financial sacrifice. I also decided to upgrade to the USB-C case because rumors have it AirPods Pro 3 won't come out for another 18 months (September 2025) so the lenght of time I will have this USB-C case for is quite significant, making its price worth it to me.

But if you don't travel a lot and paid full price for you AirPod Pro 2 with Lightning case, the value proposition of spending $99 for the case may not be there for you.

I dunno

Big-ass multi-port C chargers are still quite rare due to the (too?) flexible nature of the standard, and the majority of C devices I need to charge rarely draw more than the regular A standard... so having to buy / find plugs for separate chargers, or plugging multiple potentially dodgy plug converters from random Chinese 'brands' into a multi-A charger when you find you don't have enough legit C-to-A cables is actually pretty annoying

Phones / tablets? C absolutely. Peripherals? Not until big-ass (and not ruinously expensive) multiport C chargers become commonplace.

And this may never happen because you know if someone sells a nice, compact 50W (i.e. 2A@5V per port) 5-port C charger, it's gonna get review bombed by hundreds of people plugging in their tablets, phones and laptops and saying it doesn't work. C is the least idiot-proof power standard in a while and that will probably continue to be a problem.

How is the charging speed compared to the AW charger?

I've had yet to plug a lightning cable into my APP2 charger

Being that you didn’t pay for it. I get it.

For me personally. I took my AirPods out of the country on vacation and didn’t charge it until I got back home. It’s also the one item i generally charge wirelessly.

I have the USB-C version of the AirPods Pro and I just charge them on the magsafe charger, so I literally don't even use the USB-C port hah.
