I bit the bullet and spent $99 for a USB-C AirPods Pro case. It allowed me to get rid of all my Lighting cables. And yes – going all USB-C is as good as I thought it's be.
I travel a lot and having one universal cable for my Mac, iPhone, AirPods and iPad is great.
However–big caveat here–I got my AirPods Pro 2 as a gift over a year ago, so I never paid for them. It made shelling out $99 for the updated USB-C case make it not seem like that big of a financial sacrifice. I also decided to upgrade to the USB-C case because rumors have it AirPods Pro 3 won't come out for another 18 months (September 2025) so the lenght of time I will have this USB-C case for is quite significant, making its price worth it to me.
But if you don't travel a lot and paid full price for you AirPod Pro 2 with Lightning case, the value proposition of spending $99 for the case may not be there for you.
