Hi all,

I have a 2007 MacPro2,1 tower. I think it's finally bit the big one. The boys at UBreakIFix tried a few months ago to get the graphic card up and running again and it worked for these past few months and then the dual screens went down again. This time they said they couldn't get it back and suggested I just burry it in the back yard.

I have on this hard drive CS5.5 and Final Cut Studio3 (FCP7.0.3) and I still want to use these programs.

My question is this; can I take the Brains out of the dead MP2.1 and put it into another MP2,1? I've found some available for under $200?! Or could I migrate (Target) a MacPro4 (or5) and still use the programs without having to hunt through my storage facility looking for the original disc probably long lost from two moves in ten years??

Thanks, you guys are the best!

cheers

Reply I have this question too

If it's just the graphics card, get a new one for it.
No need to replace a whole computer just because the GPU failed.

I wish it was just the card, but the techs tried a new card and it worked for about a month and it failed too. Now they said it's the motherboard and refunded my money back, which was nice, but said they couldn't find another motherboard for this little guy.

But thanks Leon.
Cheers

Seeing as you're running Snow Leopard, as a previous poster said you should be able to move your HDD's and sleds right into another MacPro2,1 and be good to go, Apps and all.
The Hdd's would also be good to go in a later model MacPro but the sleds might be marginally different.

[doublepost=1502486136][/doublepost]Thanks TS, I was planning on getting a 4,1, or 5,1 so I might go up to at least Maverick on the OS as I've heard that Final Cut 7.0.3 still runs well w/ that one. And if the Sleds don't match I do have a chisel and a hammer!!! :)

Thanks for the note.

cheers

For $200, I will get a 4,1. If you find hard enough, you may able to get a 4,1 for $250. 4,1 can run 10.6.8 and all your softwares.
