Just received the new iMac a few hours ago and have been messing around with it ever since. This thing is amazing compared to my previous mac, a 12" 1.5 Powerbook that was 4 years old!
A few notes:
-I can definitely see the gradient issue, but I think I am more aware of it because I see people whining about it on the forums. It isnt a big deal to me, though.
-I was making a movie in iMovie, backing up everything in time machine, copying 100 GB itunes library, and surfing safari (plus a few small apps like iCal and Address Book) all at ONCE, and I couldnt tell ANY difference. I was amazed.
-Yet to do anything with Handbrake, but will pretty soon.
-Every single time I move my iTunes library I lose all the playlists, ratings, play counts, and so on. I FINALLY figured it out though, after a few tries. Looking through google didn't help too much, so I guess I just got lucky. Just move the "iTunes" folder into "Music" on the new computer, replace everything, and use "File>add to library" and select the "iTunes" folder. Boom.
-Speakers get pretty loud.
-Syncing iPhone to the new iMac was a breeze, all I pretty much did was plug it in and it kept all of its settings. All I had to do was agree to the iCal/Address Book changes and thats it really.
-Things import into iPhoto SOOO much faster
-Aluminum keyboard is great. Feels very comfortable to type on. Had the mighty mouse plugged in on one usb and my sony-t200 camera to import some pictures and no power warning....that will probably change plugging in an iPod
.
Anyways, if anyone is considering the new iMac it is a great purchase. Very happy with my second mac. If someone is contemplating to buy one, DO IT!
