Im currently a student in the US Airforce with close to no time at all. The wireless in the dorms is a complete joke and not available in the dorm rooms themselves. So Im looking to jailbreak my new 3g and tether it in my room.

Ive looked all over the forums. And from what I've gathered... the only way to jailbreak a 3.1 3g is to have had it had 3.0 at one point and to have had that firmware jailbroken. Is this correct?

Oh... I should have stated Im lookin to jail break the 3.1 3g on a windows laptop.

For the most part I just want it jailbroken so I can apply themes and stuff. Tethering can wait.

Does blackra1n jailbreak 3.1 on a 3g and still retain all the MMS and video abilities?

From what I've found, it isnt supported yet.

Don't use blackra1n... use Pwnage Tool. Info and guide are found in my signature...

There is no 5GB cap... some people just say none sense...

Werd on the skreet is 5 gigs and you can get charged or get shut off. I don't personally know, but since the guy is in a hurry, I thought it was prudent to warn of the possibility. Neither of us are going to pay his overage bill, as THAT is nonsense. ;)

I used 8GB's one month and never been overcharged for it or anything:cool:

You may be able to jailbreak, but the newest iPhones are shipping with a revised version of iBoot. If you have one of these new phones, there is not yet a way for you to jailbreak.

Neither of us will because there is NO cap. The 5GB cap is for 3G Data Connect Cards or 3G Modems. 5GB Cap does not apply to the iPhone.

Picture or it never happened. Kidding. :D Do you have a link for that? I have read various places of people getting cut off and having to call ATT to get data cut back on. I have also heard of people getting charge...I have also heard of a limit when you are using 3rd party towers or something to that extent.

I just never want to end up one of those horror stories receiving a 5k bill. Maybe for the OP and me you can link. :)

$5K bill was for some one who updated their texting on the 1st Gen and accidentally bumped of the Data Plan. So he got the $5k bill as an accident. (Don't know if he got it resolved)

Calls from AT&T to back-down usage are for costumers with Data Cards only... check AT&T's website. The specifically tell you 3G Modems have a $60/month plan for 5GB of data and other plans to cellphones have other options.
