Brand New iMac Core i3 with Boot Issue, Major Lag At Times

So I received this computer on August 14th, and have noticed a few weird things.

1) On boot, either from cold startup or restarting from bootcamp, I notice the Apple logo goes all crazy like it does in this video: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8eAI5lgFyzU&feature=related

Also it has a weird graphic in the corner that looks almost like my desktop for a few seconds before it boots into my desktop.

I don't think it's an issue with the computer, as in WIndows 7 and Ubuntu LiveCD it has no issue whatsoever.

2) Sometimes my computer lags doing menial tasks. WHen I mean lag, its often faster for me to restart my computer. It has done this when using the following programs, causing them to be unresponsive:

Finder
Chrome
Fontbook

Never noticed this issue with anything else. With Fontbook in particular, Every time I've used it on my computer it forces me to restart. Brand new computer man, it blows.

Some other facts about my computer:

No weird programs installed
50% of the Mac partition is filled
Hasn't been moved since it was put on my desk

You clearly have a problem, you're covered by a 1 year warranty and 90 days of free phone support. You should contact AppleCare (the number is in your manual) immediately to see about getting your machine repaired.

Er, no. This isn't hardware. I work for an Apple specialist Roger, and I work on this machines on a regular basis. Windows 7 NEVER has any issues. I use it around 30 hours any given week with NO issues.
 
Might want to disable Fontbook and any login items.

Plus go through and run Apple's font program, removing any and all fonts that are flagged.

snow Leopard seemed to reactivate the old fonts during upgrade, can be a pain since it isn't compatible with some of the old .dfonts that you might have made inactive with older users using the cleanup options. It proves problematic when the get dumped back in the mix.

If you got the warning about fonts when you first started, and didn't let it delete the fonts automatically ... trouble is your new friend.

No I didn't, and this is a clean install that I did not use migration assistant on.

How can I tell if fonts are flagged?
 
Use Apple's app Font Book.app to run validate fonts on all fonts. (select all fonts, the command a to select all fonts in folder all fonts)

If it was a migration, you likely would have run into a few bad fonts.

Still might get a few with older apps. Older versions of office might still give you a few.

If you get some flagged, delete them clicking by on the arrow to open up a font suitcase to find the problem and highlight it for deletion.

Takes a long time with old migrations. Still might if you loaded a lot of them with apps.

All it takes is one bad font to cause problems continuously.

I already said, I didn't use migration assistant for anything. I'll try this anyways because there is an obvious issue. Thanks.

EDIT: This is what it detected. Nothing.

Update: It just did it again. I was simply browsing the internet and it started lagging. On boot nothing weird other than it staying on the blue screen for around 20 seconds. Still no issues with Windows.

It could be from an installation of a program; I really don't know. I would reinstall 10.6 and then take it to Apple since it's less then a month old..
