Any idea why a brand new never used Gen 1 iPad 12.9" comes up as saying no warranty when i check the serial no on the apple site? Doesn't warranty start from when activated no matter how old. Seller is saying he is a app developer and bought 12 but has 2 left from back then, unopened never activated. I am meeting him tomorrow sounds genuine and i have his details.

I see this.

Repairs and Service Coverage: Expired
Our records indicate that your product isn’t covered under Apple’s Limited Warranty or an AppleCare product for hardware repairs and service based on the estimated expiration date.

Warranty starts from one they are first purchased from Apple or an authorised seller. You can't extend this date ad infinitum by leaving them "unopened never activated" - it doesn't work like that. If he bought them directly from Apple, they will have recorded the serial number at purchase on the purchase receipt. So they know when it was sold.

"a period of ONE (1) YEAR from the date of original retail purchase by the end-user purchaser ("Warranty Period")"

Thanks for clearing it up.

As indicated, the Manufacturer warranty starts from the original date of purchase. You may be able to purchase a warranty from Square Trade though.

Apple's warranty starts on the day the device is sold from Apple.
