Toronto, Duh!
My mom just bought me a 64GB iPad for my graduation, and I'm loving it! (posting on it right now) I own an Apple case, but no other accessories. Any recommendations for "must have" apps or other things?

I also have my iPad for a couple of days only but I am loving it so far. What kind of apps are you looking for to buy? I can only tell you which apps I absolutely love.
  • Things for iPad (Task Management). It is expensive but it works great
  • 1Password Pro: Great app, especially if you own the desktop version too
  • Air Video. This is a must if you have many videos you want to watch on your iPad. It can live stream almost any kind of video format to your iPad. It is fast, works very stable and it also offers the option to convert videos offline, so that you can watch them later. It also allows streaming over the Internet! This app is an absolute must.
  • Feedler Pro: a nice Google reader app
  • Civilization: A great turn based strategy game
  • Pinball HD: simply amazing
  • Command & Conquer Red Alert: great strategy game
  • Dropbox
  • Quickoffice: can edit Office documents. Connects with a variety of sources
  • BeejiveIm: Chat program, works very well
  • Twitterific: A very nice twitter client

Welcome to the iPad fam!

Grab a Camera Kit

must have apps:

Downloader
Goodreader or Airsharing
Dropbox
Webtoolkit
Air Sharing
Offline Pages

Must agree on the Pinball HD.

Keep your eyes open for another case too.

I have the apple one and it's falling apart after almost 2 months of normal use within my house.

I'm very careful with my stuff, no scratches on any of the iPhones I've owned or my macbook pro's but this thing just is falling apart.

Other than that it works great!

Enjoy your new iPad!

Falling apart? Unlikely unless subjected to abuse. I've had the iPad since day 1 and my case looks like it did, day 1!

You sure no dust or dirt is stuck to it yet?

Most people say that that's a problem with the Apple Case.

First off congrats on getting your first iPad. The iPad has really changed the way I interact with digital media and use computers in general (using the Mac less and less)

So onto some essentials - camera connection kit (enables USB MIcs, speakers, headsets, keyboards, import video, pictures and in the future I'm sure even more)

The Apple Case is my favorite but the Incase Convertible Book Jacket makes a great home case that I use when I'm not mobile.

If you are wanting a stylus I'd look into the Dagi stylus a very good stylus that I own several of.

My favorite two apps that enhance my Mac experience are AirDisplay and Rowmote Pro.

I'm also a huge Evernote user and the iPad app is simply great

I've got a bunch of apps I could list off but I'm sure you will discover those - rewriting this part of the post as macrumors logged me off as I checked for apps on the iPad.

I do run a podcast that takes a look at all the cool ways people use iPads called The iPad Possibilities Podcast found in iTunes or at www.TPPN.tv

If you have an app you are looking for I love doing huge comparison shows where developers of 10-20 apps email me copies of their apps to compare and discover the best ones of the bunch. So feel free to email me as you listen to the show if there is something I have missed or you'd like to hear about.

Anyways enjoy your new iPad!

Tim

My wife and I picked up two iPad's this afternoon. We had no intentions of buying them but as soon as we played with the displays we changed our minds. We bought our first Mac about a year, two iPhones a month later, iPod touch for our daughter, and now the two iPads. I guess you can say we have the Apple bug. Now I just have to order two cases to protect our investments.

I got my iPAD recently too. These are my MUST HAVE apps so far:

- Noterize
- GoodReader
- Dropbox
- Bing
- Google
- Netflix

I'm also going to include QuickOffice HD (haven't purchased it yet, but I will this week). According to several online EXPERT reviews, it's the best out there.

Most important feature you need to look in an application: INDEPENDENCE FROM iTUNES SYNCHING. Dropbox support and any other wireless sync option should be a must have feature.

Choosing the right software is the first iPAD adventure. the first 4 days since I got my iPAD i was thinking: "Why the heck did I buy this thing!", but now I love it!

The Elements is my favorite demo app...it's large, almost 2 gigs, but you've got enough room on the 64gig iPad to handle it.

Also:
iAnnotate - works great with GoodReader and enables annotation of PDF's
Evernote - a great information repository

I bought one for family use and I was not able to put my hand on it. I thought after the first few weeks the novelty wears off and my time will come but no luck so I had to buy another one and I really like the flexibility of the thing.

Accessories I have:
Marware Eco-Vue case - elegant but heavy
Neoprene netbook sleeve - cheap and protects well
iStyles skins
Camera Connection Kit - ordered two weeks ago sipping on 5-Aug :-(

My favorite apps:
MobileRSS HD
ReaddleDocs
PDF HD
QuickOffice Connect
AccuWeather
AirVideo
Real Racing HD
Pinball HD
Photogene
Memeo Connect
Todo for iPad
iM+
1Password Pro
The World Factbook for iPad
...and ~30 more but these are the ones I am using pretty much every day

Welcome to the club!

My most used apps are:

Atomic Web Browser
SketchBook
GoodReader
Pages
Air Sharing
Weatherbug
RealRacingHD

QuickOffice HD is the best. I used Documents to Go on a friends iPad and must say that the UI is horrid and is basically a bigger version of the iPhone app. QuickOffice HD took awhile to be released but the UI is optimized for the iPad.

Also, can anyone recommend any good games? I don't have at much money, I'm just 16 but I think this might be useful for the OP as well.

In the exact same boat as OP (Toronto too...) iPad is wicked so far, really liking the new apps. Fieldrunners was awesome on the iPhone, but 100x better on the iPad...

Love it!

Thank you for mentioning Feeddler. I've been looking for a really good Google Reader App for the iPhone (I'm enjoying some iPad envy!) and I think I just found it.

Thanks!

Thanks for the advice! I'm probably not going to get QuickOffice, as I already have two of the iWork for iPad apps. Also, would you recommend "the elements"? It looks awesome but expensive!

If you have the money, get both Pages and Quick Office or Documents to Go. I think the later two do better at keeping doc files in check over Pages, but Pages is nicer for other things. Tell your Mom thank you as well, its a nice gift if your going to college.

Elements is nice, but for myself, I didn't need all the wonderful graphics to appreciate the table of elements, I use EleMints 2, granted it links to safari and wikipedia to read information on the elements, if you think you need the graphical front to appreciate the elements then by all means pay for the elements.

Quickoffice offline

Great to see the iPad more and more useful for office productivity. Been using memeo connect reader/Google Docs and Readdle Docs with iWork. Not bad.

I need info b4 I buy QuickOffice. Seems to be a pretty good App? BUT can you work offline with it? And can you also get your docs offline with Docs2go, another App I will probably buy?

And yep Feeddler is a pretty solid newsreader. Would prefer the Google Reader sync to be optional though.

Thks for your help

Nice! I just ordered my 32GB WiFi iPad from the apple store on Friday (June 25), but it says it will be delivered on July 19, which is pretty far:(

Don't worry, mine said it would ship by July 3rd, and I got it more than a week early.

I would also recommend Google Earth as a good demo app. I know everyone has seen it on the computer, but it is a totally different experience when you can just touch places on the globe and spin it around and such.
