Hello!

A week ago I dropped my iPhone 5s and the screen cracked. Today I bought an iPhone 6s. I put my ATT sim card from the 5s into the 6s, then did a restore via iTunes. The 5s was last backed up a week ago. After the restore, the phone repeatedly asked for my appleID and iTunes password. I realized I did not have the password written down or saved anywhere other than on the broken phone. I had done an apple ID reset on the go, on my phone, and I think I had saved the password as a note. I tried to reset the password for the Apple ID, only to find that the credit card number needed to verify the account was one from a year ago, which has since been replaced.

So now I am here with my new iPhone 6s, which 2 hours ago was fresh out of the box. Unfortunately, since it has been tied to my AppleID, and I do not have the password, the phone is completely unusable. It will only continue to ask me for the password for my Apple ID. I cannot restore the phone either, because Find My iPhone is supposedly turned on. I can’t turn this off unless I have the password to my iCloud/appleID account.

Is there anything I can do other than wait until the 24th, when Apple says they will contact me regarding AppleID recovery? Is there anything the Apple store can do? I have the receipt from when it was purchased quite recently. Perhaps getting the screen fixed on the 5s might be the only option, so I can get the AppleID password from the notes?

Please let me know, this is very frustrating.

You can have the phone wiped and have your Apple ID removed from the phone. You will need to contact Apple Support and provide a copy of your receipt. Once the phone is wiped you can set it up as new until you reset your password.

You’ll probably have to wait for the Apple ID recovery if you don’t want to pay for the screen repair to get it from notes. The Apple store may be able to help with receipts, but they will probably just contact the same support team you’re already working with.

Here's some more information:

Turns out I was able to access notes which were backed up on Gmail. Unfortunately, the AppleID password is not in my notes!

Even if I go through AppleID recovery, the only way to reset the password is via a phone call or text message. I cannot use the 6s to receive calls or text messages as the phone literally will not stop asking me for my AppleID password. Seems that the only way to get through this is to get the 5s screen repaired if Apple cannot wipe the new 6s completely clean. I know I should have saved my password somewhere, or had my credit card updated, but this is quite ridiculous.

My question is:

If I get the 5s screen repaired, will I be able to reset my AppleID password on the spot? Or will I have to wait until the AppleID recovery process is finished?

Call the support, they can walk you through a process to reset your password.
Be prepared to answer a dozen or so questions.
things to have that will help the process. do this over the phone and not chat.
1. address and phone number used for the ID and all the emails associated with it
2. the credit card associated with the ID
3. phone serial numbers and possibly the IMEI (on the original boxes)
4. security questions
5. a laptop with internet access (they may want to remote into your computer to monitor the password recovery)
6. patience as it could take up to 45 minutes to go through the process. hanging up and hoping to get someone else will only delay the process as the CSR will start over again.

Can you put the sim into another phone to receive the reset text message?

Can you say reset the 6s and set it up without signing into your icloud account to receive the reset text message?

This happened my son - since you still have the 5s put the sim back in the 5s do the recovery of your password using forgot osssword on that device - and you can unlock and change your password once you gain access you will be able to start using that access in your 6s

The trick is to always use a device that was working with your Apple ID for forgot password - then you don’t have to wait the 72 hours for account recovery
