I just bought a brand-new Macbook pro M4 max directly from Apple. After checking the SSD’s SMART data using DriveDx and smartctl , I noticed something unusual: it shows about 130 power cycles but only around 3 total power-on hours. This seems odd to me why would there be so many power cycles in such a short total uptime?

I’m wondering if this is normal due to factory testing or something similar, or if it’s a sign that something might be off. Has anyone else seen something like this on a newly purchased Mac? Should I contact Apple Support to confirm everything is okay, or is this just standard for a freshly shipped device?

Thanks for any insights!

What about the Data Units Read and Written? Is that from you (via migration assistant)? What about the unsafe shutdowns? If you think this is a concern, return it and get a new/different one.

This might be a weird question, but I'm going to ask it anyway.... do people not buy Macs anymore and just use them?
