My brand new MacBook 16" refurbished shows "Service Recommended" on the battery on Mac OS X BigSur.

A SMC Reset didn't helped.

Important Battery Message

The battery's capacity is significantly reduced. To restore capacity, please check you service options.

Which option should I use:

1. Wait for BigSur Final release
2. Bring it with BigSur to an Apple Store for service
3. Donwgrade to Catalina and bring it to an Apple Store

You should "downgrade" to Catalina. Running a beta OS isn't something you would normally do on your primary machine. If you end up with data loss or corruption of data, it happens. It's a beta OS. It's not intended to be a daily driver. It's how Apple irons out critical bugs that are not easy to spot in internal testing. It also helps developers prepare their software for the next release.

If it tells you that you have a battery problem in Catalina or you have symptoms of one, you should take it in. Otherwise report the bug. As much as new releases can reveal stuff occasionally, it's more likely that you're just seeing a bug that will be fixed in a future release.

call apple...

He's running a beta version of an OS. Apple will not offer support for this, nor should they. These are self inflicted problems unless the same thing shows up in Catalina. If it's an actual bug, you can file a bug report against BigSur.

There is no problem with your Macbook, there is a bug in Big Sur beta 3 that sees the battery as 40 years old...
You can correct it (for one boot), by doing a PRAM reset, not SMC.
It does not affect anything, wait till Tuesday for beta 4 which will probably fix it.

Report the issue to Apple using the feedback assistant and that's about it. That's what happens if you use pre-release OS versions. Your laptop is fine.

I think it's not a good solution to call my Employer on Monday to brief him I will stop porting his software to the newest OS 😀

PRAM Reset did the trick. 👍

Telling them you aren't going to use beta software as a daily driver would probably provide them with some relief really. Sometimes you might lose data to beta software due to an outstanding bug, and it would be your fault for depending on it. Even with backups, data loss due to corruption is not always immediately obvious or easy to restore.

At the very least, be extra diligent about full backups, and remember to check bug reports if you're going to run beta software. Don't use it for anything super critical. Most of the time it's fine, but you can run into issues once in a while.

Thank you for posting this. I was just about to ask if anyone else was having this issue. I have a 2018 15 inch and it was showing service battery. Even shows in apples AST2 suite, but I did not have this issue in Catalina. Computer operates fine otherwise.

I've have had this issues for months I could've bothering to post. But It wasn't happing in right amount of people to bring it to surface.

Here is my case wish that could help a bit.

Services recommended happened in MacOS 10.15.5 standard version on my 2018 15inch. The battery cycle is 260-ish. Which's gives me concerned. But the MacBook is fully functional so I thought I wouldn't for that reason to go with the repair.

So I waited untill Big sur Dev beta coming in. In beta 3 there is few change that increased the noticeably of the huge plug icon on the battery. And the worrying triangle icon persistent no more.

You notice how I mentioned developing for a later OS as an exception?

The idiotic thing on Apple's part is that they make you use a beta OSX to get a compiler toolchain compatible with the latest iOS. You get to beta test everything at once rather than limit your exposure. That to me is insanity, but whatever. Just be careful about versioning backups and realize beta software does stuff like this. It's worth having an extra startup disk with Catalina as well.

Not only was the beta doing this, the full release does it as well. Yay!
