Hi I just got my macbook not too long ago and for right now am using it as just a desktop. I completely drained the battery and then completely charged it like apple says to and it charged to 100%. I haven't taken it off the outlet since. But yesterday morning before we left it said 99% battery charge while still plugged in? I turned it off but left it plugged in now tonight I just turned it on( we were gone that whole time) and its saying 98% battery. This whole time its not been taken off of ac power and just been left on my desk.

Anyone have any clue as to what might cause that? Its really wierd.

It's normal. That's just how the charger works. So your battery isn't overcharged (very bad for batteries to be overcharged) and so it isn't constantly incrementally charging, the adaptor doesn't start charging again until the capacity falls below about 95%. :)

It's probably nothing. If you're not going to use the battery though, I'd suggest draining it to around 50% and keeping it out of the computer (although you should calibrate it every-so-often). As for checking the battery, unplug the computer for a while and see how long it lasts. :p

Edit: Too bad my Toshiba M30 doesn't do that, mad jew..lol

Interesting so the battery looses about 1 percent charge a day if not used? Thanks for the reply mad jew.

And thanks iDuck

Yeah I had read about these types of batteries lasting longer if they were kept around 40-50% charge. I plan on using it as a laptop before too much longer but I want to get a shock proof case and a bag before I take it out into the cruel world. I wish they made a cling type skin for it like they do for the ipods to keep it from getting scratched up. I'd mainly want just a white one but maybe a nice simple graphic might look cool too.

Depends on how you're using the machine because intensive work can start sapping battery power as well as adaptor power, although this is very rare. Also, if you'd been using it a lot then it may have dropped to 95% already, recharged to 100% and then fallen back to 98% again. :)

Since it was off though, both of these scenarios seem unlikely. :p
