Hey All,

I know there are lots of threads about tempurature but most seem to be from previous gens or I can't find the right ones.

Anyway I am running handbrake and my comp is running at 85 degrees (edit:Celcius) according to iStatpro and fans are at 6000 rpm. Both seem very high. I thought the high temps were fixed a long time ago.

Suggestions? Is this normal?

In normal everyday operation it is running around 50-60 degrees.

ive seen macbooks get upwards of 130 degrees. you dont really have anything to worry about.

holllaaa...u can get smcFancontrol...a freeware application that lets u set ur own fan speed on ur mac....cool little tool if u ask me...check it out for urself!!! much love, A8

I have heard of this program. But as the fans are already running at 6000 rpm it seems like it is already high. I would be happy to be corrected however.

As soon as I start running any heavy graphics my fans jump to 6000 rpm as well and stay there forever. However, my max temp that I've noticed so far has been 65ºC and I've got no air and the temps have been 26-30 in my apartment. So you do seem to be running high to me.

My Macbook Rev A gets up to 95 Celicius when running handbrake and seeing as not much has changed between Rev A and C I would think that both get up to temperatures around 90 when doing CPU intensive tasks. I have also installed SMCFanControl and have set the fans to run at 6200rpm and it is still 90... nothing to worry about, although I do hope my computer explodes and apple give me a new one

I haven't run handbrake, but I've done other processor intensive tasks, and my Macbook Rev B (2.0ghz C2D) would hit around 80C with the fans going at 6000 rpm. So I think your 85C is within the ballpark.

85C and full fan speed when running handbrake is perfectly normal since it maxes out the CPU, and it won't harm your components unless you run it 24/7.

A tightly packaged computer like the MacBook is a tricky thing to keep cool, and with only one tiny fan you can't move much hot air out of the case. You'll see the same issue with any notebook of that size and speed.

my macbook gets hot from time to time, especially when running video or a dvd. in fact, when im in class watching youtube, the fan(s?) come blazing on and a few people turn around to see where all the noise is coming from. :(

Sorry for the delay in responding. But thanks to all that have reassured me now that my temps aren't too out of this world.

Cheers!
