Hello! I'm new to posting here, but have been reading for while.

I am a long-time Mac user. I just bought a brand-new Macbook (the $1099 model) from the Apple Store yesterday. I purchased one, opened it right there in the store since I live an hour and a half away--well, that one had a lump on the right side of the trackpad button, so I immediately exchanged it before leaving the store. Also opened the 2nd one, and all seemed fine, so I took it and headed home.

Got home, all excited with my new Mac, and started it up, plugged it in to charge, only to discover that my magsafe power adapter is DOA. The adapter's LED would come on, but the green LED would flash slowly. In the System Prefs, the Power Profile would switch between plugged in and battery very rapidly. I also ran the laptop on battery only and it was fine, so I assumed it was not a battery problem. I then took the battery out and tried to power it on the power adapter only and it would not power on.

Based on this, I concluded it must be the power adapter.

My husband called Apple and explained what was happening and they're shipping a new one right out, expected to arrive Tuesday. My husband also checked the power adapter with his muitimeter, and the voltage was very erratic and low, so we confirmed that it is indeed dead.

Has this happened to anyone else? Do you agree, based on what we tried, that the problem is the power adapter itself, and not the port, battery, or DC converter boards? I will get the new adapter Tuesday, but until then I can't help but worry about it. I still have my 14 day return policy for a couple more weeks, so that's always a last-resort option.

Thanks for any advice or reassurance. I'm a worrywart. :(

You're not alone. My brand new MBP (arrived Friday) shipped with a completely dead power adapter. My LED wouldn't even light. I spoke with Apple tech. support and had them arrange an appointment with an Apple genius at a local Apple store. After 5 minutes of testing, the Apple genius confirmed my diagnosis and replaced the power adapter with a new one, free of charge. If you're close to an Apple store I'd highly recommend you go this route. Also, they can verify that it's just the adapter and nothing wrong with your Macbook. Best of luck.
