Thanks for the advice. Samsung has a great reputation. For a few bucks more I purchased the Samsung T9. It will be here early am. Thanks sir!

As I suggested in another topic you started (on essentially the same subject)...

Get a USB3.1 gen2 drive.
It will be "all you need" for time machine.

A thunderbolt drive for time machine (or for just about any "backup") is literally throwing your money away...

That's way too much money for a 1 TB HDD (spinning hard drive) portable with an outdated connector hard-wired into it.

Also, from your signature I gather your MacBook Pro has a 1TB internal drive. You'll want your backup drive to be at least 2x-3x as large so you don't lose older versions of your files as you fill it up. https://diskprices.com/ is a good place to start your search if you're buying on Amazon.

(edit: I see you already bought a drive, but I'll leave this comment up for anyone researching this topic in the future)
