Has anyone else seen this? The MacBook Pro was sealed (I've gone through a couple of these, between my family and a few warranty replacements, so I'm familiar with what a "proper" BNIB model should be!) and actually in the brown shipping box from Apple. And yet, turning it on... it says I only have 34 days left to add AppleCare and that, accordingly, my warranty started nearly a month ago? Has anyone else experienced this?

Thanks!

yes this happens when some one returns a sealed box, just call apple and ask for contract team, and they will help you fix it

Why would a warranty countdown even get triggered though? It’s from a 3rd party seller so how would Apple even know it was sold?

I bought a new M1 Max a couple of weeks ago and it said 30 days left. Within a couple of days it reset back to the usual 60 days (minus the couple of days I'd had it) without me doing anything.

If the machine went through the initial setup process, it would have been activated via Apple's servers.
Also Apple starts the warranty automatically on many of these when they ship out to major retailers. These cycle quickly through so the warranty is normally only off by a short amount of time. I've experienced this personally many times. It doesn't matter because as long as you have your receipt etc, Apple can easily fix the date on their end if it's incorrect.

OP:

If you contact Apple about this, could you let us know the results of that call?

Actually this is my exact scenario. M1 Max (64/2 TB… as overkill as possible, but for for the price!) and warranty is back to 60 days after a few hours and (coincidental or not) a software update. Thanks, all!

Edit: FWIW, my other “problem” is that I bought AppleCare+ for a MacBook I ended up returning… still have not seen that refund, but they told me it may be 15 days (and it’s been ~5). Hopefully that resolves itself, too!
